Can former NYC mayor and billionaire Michael R. Bloomberg run for president against Hillary and win the Democratic nomination in 2016?

He's not even a democrat, and he was a republican within the last 10 years. NO.

His extreme 2A views would not work nationally.

Have a question for you.  What is the difference between a neo-lib and a neo-con? I often see green types call Hillary both.

Seriously though, this is the funniest thing I've ever read. Only in the Beltway media is Bloomberg a viable candidate nationally, much less in a Democratic primary, much less against HILLARY CLINTON. Do you we really need an avalanche of stories every time some random journalist suggests someone who obviously is not going to run against Hillary should run against Hillary?

Neoliberal = "Fiscally conservative", favors austerity, deregulation, etc.
Neoconservative = Interventionist on foreign policy, hawkish, etc.

The amount of left-wingers throwing as many names they can just because they don't like Hillary... even with people that they might not agree with. Is getting really hilarious.

I mean dude... Bloomberg was a social liberal on some issues and law and order on others especially crime. As well as being an economic conservative.....

One of the reasons he won so many times as that he was very tough on crime. Something that hardcore leftwing democrats don't like.

Well for one, a "neoliberal" refers to being classically liberal and therefore has much more in common with being fiscally conservative than it does with modern American liberalism.

Bloomberg could never beat Hillary for the Democratic nomination for President.  He's a nominal Republican, kinda sorta, in that he accepts the GOP nomination but isn't a registered Republican anymore.  He's not been a solid supporter of the GOP Presidential ticket, and he once was a registered Democrat, but it won't happen.

On the other hand, Bloomberg is THE guy who has the BEST chance of being elected President as an independent.  It's not a GREAT chance, but it's something that MIGHT happen.  He can self-finance, he's smart enough to deal with the issue of being on the ballot in all 50 states, and he can self-finance.  He's the guy who, as an independent, could carry some states.  He could well carry NY, NJ, CT, and possibly a few others if enough Democrats are on board and the GOP in those states views a vote for Bloomberg as a vote against the Democrats.  He projects as a guy who knows the economy and people know that and want that.  He's not likable, but he projects competence, and people will follow competence over empathy when push comes to shove.

This electoral map gives the GOP 266 EV.  I think Bloomberg, if he ran, would carry much of the Northeast and shift some of the Midwest to the GOP.  If he could push MI and IL to the GOP, it would be impressive, but I think there will be a lot of moderate Republicans in the Midwest that will vote for Bloomberg, and I think the GOP in the northeast will go en masse to Bloomberg in the states he would carry.

This would send the election into the House, short of some kind of deal.  What would that scenario be if it got that far.

A mayor of New York City is not going to get elected president. There are too many areas of the country that see NYC as too fundamentally alien from the way they live.

Americans are too stupid to elect a great leader like Michael Bloomberg. He doesn't fit into their perfect little box of left or right.

It wouldn't be an election forum without somebody posting a thread about Bloomberg running as America's bipartisan savior.

Short and simple answer, no.

New York Post columnist Michael Goodwin brought up a Bloomberg 2016 bid in today's New York Post edition.

I would really like to see a single thing from any "true leftist" anywhere supporting Hillary Clinton. This is a pretty insane strawman that IceSpear and the Hillary crew has been peddling everywhere.
