Good, but Blatter needs to be taken down as well.

Hopefully Blatter loses the vote on Friday, but how democratic will it be? We're dealing with FIFA here...

Not going far enough.

Russia is too close to change, but hopefully the US or us ends up with 2022.

Prosecutors have evidence of multimillion dollar bribes over the past twenty years; possibility 2010 World Cup was awarded on that basis.

Well, they will include an item in the next World Cup award stating that the host country has to provide luxury incarceration facilities for the FIFA secretariat members.

Blatter will come out of this unscathed. He'll disassociate with everyone involved and pretend he barely knew them and it was his leadership really that was behind rooting out corruption.

I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not.

Just goes to show that it's useful to have a country that likes football but doesn't worship it.

Did anybody ever think that placing the cup in Qatar or Russia was NOT the result of a bribe?

I'd say all host decisions from 1998 onward involved some sort of bribery.

The fact that my favorite sport is so corrupt makes me sad. Brazilian football officials are some of the dirtiest men in the World. José Maria Marin (who was arrested today) is actually small fish when compared to Ricardo Teixeira (former President of Brazil's FA) and João Havelange (the man who ruled FIFA before Blatter).

Hopefully this at least can lead to the 2022 cup being pulled from Qatar

You know that rhetoric that conservative/hawkish Americans like to use about us being "the world's policeman" or "a beacon of justice and freedom to the world" or how we're special and unique and above the fray and have an obligation to spread our heaven-sent values to the four corners of the globe and root out evildoers and all that?

Well, uh, this news almost makes me believe it for a moment.  USA!  USA!  USA!

Russia getting it was somewhat sketchy.
Qatar getting is 100% absolutely ridiculous, and made it clear that FIFA is a complete joke organization.

Well, FIFA spent so much time trying to make North Americans become soccer fans...
This is the result!

The last transparent country to host the FIFA World Cup was Germany in 2006.

After that, maybe only in 2026
