I really, really should be working on my finals. I am so close to the end.

But I've been distracted by atlas and the European Parliament Smiley

Which political group of the European Parliament would you join?

I'll personally go with Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats.

Greens/EFA
(since the Austrian party I support, Die Grünen, is one of its members)

I'd be EFD if not for UKIP being a thing, so I guess GEFA?

Joining for M5S instead of the right-wing euroskeptics, I'd guess.

EPP, I guess? They seem more moderate than me, which might make ECR a good fit fit for me, but I don't really consider myself Eurosceptic...

As a member of the SNP; and a supporter of the English & Welsh Greens.

Greens-EFA myself, although my opinion of the British Greens has soured recently, due to them sucking up to Fianna Fáil 2.0.

EUL/NGL. Social democrats in Europe are by and large pretty terrible.

I have friends who are affiliated with the EPP, so that's my vote.

Greens-EFA, the only left-wing Europeist group there is.

Seems a bit harsh to the actual Left (especially seeing as GEFA has some rather centrist members - the Baltic Greens, the German and Irish Greens, the SNP etc. Heck, they even had the New Flemish Alliance in their group last parliament.

He seems to be referring to the Eurosceptic tendencies existing on the UL.

This is a deeply weird thread, as are all threads about the European 'Parliament'* started by Americans. Political groups in the European 'Parliament' are just technical groups who agree on just enough topics (or who have just enough shared history) to combine in order to qualify for committee posts, expenses and so on. They are not noble ventures of ideological purity.

*Although in some respects it is truer to the original meaning of the word than most Parliaments, with the Old French word parlement roughly translating as 'talking shop'.
