I don't feel right speculating in light of such tragic news, but would Hunter Biden have any interest in running? For closure?

Hunter has a cocaine problem, a small one but it's still something that would probably preclude him from running.

Also condolences to Papa Joe.

He also works/ed as a lobbyist. That might be an even bigger problem.

Maybe Delaware Democrats can nominate someone not named Biden?

I'd say Democrats are heavily favored, but Republicans have a strong recruit here in Colin Bonini.

What's so great about Bonini?

Came very close to winning State Treasurer in 2010 (with 2%), currently a State Senator, so real experience both in government and in statewide electoral politics.

He has about as good of a chance as any Republican will have in Delaware in a Presidential year; nothing special about him. Being in the Senate is a potential benefit, though.

He had to deal with Christine O'Donnell at the top of the ticket. Delaware 2010 =/= anywhere else 2010.

That being said, the tiniest of chances he would have.

How conservative is he?  His chances will probably depend heavily on whether he's moderate enough for a general election.

Delaware also had a Democrat pick up Mike Castle's seat in Congress in 2010.

Per wikipedia, the democrats have 4 options for their plan B.

John Carney, U.S. Representative, former Lieutenant Governor of Delaware and candidate for Governor in 2008[4]
Thomas P. Gordon, County Executive of New Castle County[5]
John Kowalko, State Representative[6]
Peter Schwartzkopf, Speaker of the Delaware House of Representatives[6]

Rating for this race stays at Safe D for now.

This is undoubtedly the worst time you could post that. At least wait a week man.

He at least could've posted it in a different thread.

No.  This is a political forum and its perfectly acceptable to talk about the political implications of a public figure's death.

It's acceptable in that it isn't against the rules, it just makes you look like a sociopathic tool.

I think you could have a seperate thread about the political implications.

This is the thread about the political implications: It's got "DE-GOV" and everything. There's already a thread in General Discussion about Beau Biden's death.

To be fair, this is hardly the first thread about the death of a politician that didn't immediately spark a discussion about the political implications.

No, if you want to have a thread where you can privately mourn the loss of Democratic superstar Beau Biden with all of your Atlas buddies then it belongs in the "Off-Topic" board.

As Zioneer pointed out, this is in the gubernatorial board and thus any posts to the effect of "RIP" are actually the posts that are off-topic.

I'm sort of late to getting here, but RIP Beau.

I feel really bad for VP Biden. As John Kasich said, he's had a "lifetime of tears."

When a candidate for office dies, it seems that it can be appropriate to have an RIP thread in this subforum, even if another one exists elsewhere.

The initial post was not about the political implications. It was simply about the tragedy.

The same is true of most of the follow-ups.

RIP. For some reason, this saddened me a lot more than I would have expected it to.
