This Pete Ricketts guy is a total loser. Gets yet another veto overriden - this time over driver licenses for undocumented migrants. Who gets two vetoes (on two completely different bills)  overridden  just months into that governors term?

He looks very unstatesmanlike too. There's a reason he lost nearly 2-1 in a senate election in nebraska. Total loser is right. Quite pathetic indeed. We better have a good insurgent primary candidate come 2018.

The NE legislature is nonpartisan and unicameral. I imagine that helps.

The Nebraska legislature is conservative, but being non-partisan means it often takes positions that makes sense for conservatives but is often shouted down by party pressure in the Republicans. In the death penalty case the two main arguments used was it cost the state tons of money over something that wasn't being used and that it wasn't fair to the families of victims since it kept putting them through years of appeals and uncertainty. In this case they're basically standing up for actual "family values". I suppose the Nebraska legislature could be pointed to as a rare example of actual "compassionate conservatism" in the US.

Also, keep in mind that the veto override procedure only requires 60% support from the legislature in NE, not the usual 67%.

And what's the reason to change it? While some would advocate such a change on the basis of streamlining the passage of legislation, there are those who would hold that making it difficult to pass laws should be considered a benefit.

It's not the lack of a bicameral legislature that's causing these vetoes to be overriden, it's the lack of partisan labels of lawmakers. It leads them to make more reasonable decisions not subject to party scrutiny.
