After the recent debacle, I think it's clear that we need a more specific set of rules for the Assembly. I will support this bill.

In my capacity as Speaker, I have made the following minor adjustments to this bill (mostly correcting references to federal offices, such as "presidential nominees" when "gubernatorial nominees" is clearly meant).

I would also suggest we amend the second bullet point in Article I, Section 3 to read "seven consecutive days", but as such a change has a more substantial effect on the meaning of the bill we'll need to vote on it.

I'd like to hear my fellow Assemblymen's views on this.

I think it sounds good. I like the clarification for regional emergencies.

Well, I'm really happy to see that ME representatives don't have any objections about this. It finally gives a purpose to the LG and will make the debates clearer.

I will introduce legislations in the coming days Smiley.

I propose the following amendment:

Quote

The change to Article I is fairly straight forward. In Article III, I struck out the requirement that the Speaker announce when a bill has enough votes to pass, since a) I assume most people in the Assembly can count; and b) I can't be hovering next to my computer all day waiting for you all to vote.

Also, I'd be interested to hear what everyone thinks of lengthening the length of votes from 48 to 72 hours.

Seeing no debate, I am calling a vote on my amendment. Please vote AYE, NAY, or Abstain. Voting will last 48 hours.

AYE

As I said above, I think it does a wonderful job of clearing things up more, and I like the extended voting period idea too. I plan to give a vote explanation for each vote btw.

With 2 Ayes, 0 Nays, and three members not voting, this amendment has been adopted.

I will call a final vote on this in approximately 24 hours if there are no objections.

Nay

The powers listed in the previous amendment concerning the powers of the Lt. Governor suffice. Extending the voting time of bills is accepted however.

Good question. I'm inclined to think that a signature is not necessary, but the old rules are titled the Consolidated Statute of Mideast Legislative procedure, so it might be a good idea for you to sign it just to be safe.
