Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said Monday that he’d be willing to sign a 20-week abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest, adding that women were mostly concerned about those issues "in the initial months" of pregnancy, television station WKOW reported.

“I mean, I think for most people who are concerned about that, it’s in the initial months where they’re most concerned about it,” Walker said of pregnancies caused by rape and incest.

The next thing we know, he'll call for the repeal of the 19th Amendment.

Meh. I'd prefer a rape/incest exception up to the 30th week, but restricting it to 20 weeks is hardly bad policy.

This.  Dems get very hyperbolic when abortion comes up.

Yeah, I agree. It's unconscionable policy.

Hillary is not inevitable, guys. The GOP field is strong. People will care more about emails at the end of the day than the issues.

He's right.  While I oppose abortion in all circumstances except for the life of the mother, I cannot envision a scenario by which a human being can wait until a viability stage to kill their unborn child.  It's unfathomable.

The exemptions are unnecessary.  My understanding is that the law would still allow the exemptions up until that 20 week timeframe.  The majority of Americans take zero issues with this.

If the Democrats want to spend the campaign cycle suggesting they are for partial birth abortion and abortion past the viability stage, which contrasts with the majority opinion, be my guest.

Yeah. I've never understood how the same group can call for government regulation of every aspect of the healthcare industry EXCEPT this one and only one issue. In Virginia, they were freaking out about health standards (which apply to all medical facilities). When legislators propose infection prevention guidelines or require hallways wide enough to accommodate gurneys and cite abortion clinics for improperly cleaning equipment, all of a sudden regulations imposing costs on businesses and reducing access IS a problem. But only as applied to abortion clinics. All other surgeries and hospitals may be regulated as the state desires.

Just like how the "Iz muh body!" argument is never extended to the absolute prohibition on female circumcision surgery in the U.S. even though there are women who consent to it (and you know ... iz their body"). Same with prostitution.

I will say though, based on how the extremists over react, no Republican should ever use the words "rape" and "abortion" in the same paragraph.

Pawlenty didn't gaffe his way out of the race. He ran out of money.

As crazy as this sounds to most of us, Walker is putting all his chips on winning the state that has given wins to Santorum, Huckabee, and lower down, Steve King and Joni Ernst.

We are supposed to believe there are a bunch of women who carry a baby for 20 weeks and then suddenly have the need to abort because of rape?

Have you ever counselled women? Do you understand the psychology behind women who find themselves pregnant after they have been raped and the time it takes for them to process these things? No. So shut up.

I'm sorry I thought this was a forum where we were allowed to discuss things.

Have you ever told the product of a rape pregnancy you think their life is worth less than other people?

I wonder if the position of forum members would be different if there was a higher proportion of A) Women B) People with experience in dealing with rape victims

It's very easy for a male, who's got no experience of sexual assault/mental health etc to sit in his armchair and say 'oh 20 weeks is just too long'
