I've seen some things said in here. Tongue

With respect, I don't think it's accurate to say I've done a "bizarro 180" like Griffin is arguing. This isn't a Matt-style transformation. I've slowly evolved on a few issues due to me coming to terms with some things in my life and my general dissatisfaction with organized conservatism (and the people it attracts) in the real world. Here in Atlasia, I decided to become an Independent because I wasn't really happy with how things had been going in the Federalist Party. It's been much more stress-free now, and I'm loving it... it makes for a happier Hagrid.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up. I would love to be able to earn more of your votes in the election. I think the senate has done a lot of good work over the last few months, and I'm happy to have been a part of it. I know others like windjammer and Griffin are already oiling the Labor machine behind the scenes for PiT (interesting), but if you look to what PiT and I both stand for and how we operate in government, I hope most of you will find that I am worth endorsing. I'm not going to fall in bed with some of your more extreme proposals (Tongue), but in me you find someone who is open to having smart government help people.

Thanks everyone!

We now have 72 hours to debate the party platform. I encourage all members to put forward suggestions for how we can update the platform to meet the realities of present-day Atlasia, so that we can put forward a clear and detailed agenda on behalf of the Atlasian Worker and the Atlasian People.

The floor is now open.

Oh boy, it always dies when platform talk comes around...until it explodes. Tongue

I do believe this was the last update to our party platform.

Some adjustments I'd suggest:

1)
Making the $15 minimum wage clause tied to inflation.

2)

These two clauses are similar enough to be made into one clause

Why not ban spanking/corporate punishment of children in general, not just in school? Certainly detrimental to a child's upbringing.

I don't think that we should get that intimately involved in the household, tbh. I am fine with a ban on state enforced corporal punishment, but I think that corporal punishment bans in the home are ultimately going to be (a) erratically enforced and (b) result in more low income people ending up in the prison system

It's more of a symbolic gesture, and it's acceptable if it's erratically enforced. Countries like Brazil and Germany ban corporate punishment and parents don't end up in jail for it.

No opposition to the other suggested amendments?

I don't think the state should be perusing around the household and disciplining parents for how they choose to discipline their children. At any rate, if such a policy is brought up for a vote, I will vote against it.

I think the right to fundamental security of the person is important enough for such a policy to be on the books. In any case if I sponsored a bill to ban corporate punishment the "punishment" for the parents would be mandatory counselling.

I'll formally sponsor the following amendments.

The above would replace the two clauses regarding the right of public employees to unionize and strike.

Since these two amendments have had no opposition, I will ask for a vote on these. I also want to hear more party members give their opinion on banning corporate punishment and/or private schools.

FYI we are supposed to be having Politburo elections this week, so I'd recommend anyone interested in serving as Chair or VC make their intentions known over the next three days.

I think it might also be wise for us to have a Party-wide vote after the Party elections on which of the recent game reform ideas, if any at all, we support or do not support so we can present a united front as a Party. We are the largest party in the game after all, so we should obviously have a say in what transpires.

Well,
Hifly is our only candidate and he has experience for running a party irl.
So if it's needed, I believe he sgould have at least the right to be on the ballot so I will second his nomiantion.

As Registrar General, I hereby inform you that your Chair is no longer a registered voter in Atlasia.

In addition, your Vice-Chair is no longer a member of your party.
