I think that's a gross oversimplification, at best, and I think he is very sincere in his antipathy toward George Bush and the Republican party.

Got me, but I sure wish he'd change his party all the same. Tongue

Let me just say, I don't think a 36 year old man changes his views so radically in the course of a few months.  So something's fishy.  What it is I don't know or really care.  Even if he makes liberals look bad here, it will hardly have an effect on the outside world.  I think opebo's just looking for attention and trying to push people's buttons.

Oh yes.  And he blasted liberals and Democrats.  And this was not so long ago.  He was never your standard Republican, but more of an economic royalist with libertarian-leaning social views.  I thought his views as expressed then were a lot more honest with respect to his actual life situation as he depicts it.

He changed overnight to a frothing liberal Democrat.  Again, not a standard liberal, but someone with left-wing economic views and even more extreme social libertarianism.

I think I arrived here just for the last change when opebo switched his support from Bush. That may have been late August. I have only vague memories of right leaning opebo.

That proves that his strategy is a success.  Opebo loves attention.

yes, it took me years to turn from a Republican-leaning swing voter into a Democratic Party partisan -there is no way that Opebo could take only a few short months within the span of a single year and turn from a strong A18-like Republican at this time last year into an ultraliberal Democrat par none.

i smell a rat.......

Personally, I would not like to have attention over declaring my support for a pedophile when he rapes an 8-year-old boy, but that's just me.

Just an unusual request for opebo.

I would like, just so I can say I've seen it, for you to switch to a blue avatar. It is only for a little while. Lets say from 1:00-2:00 PM CST. Just for my amusement. Then you can go back to red. Don't worry. You can still have disdain towards religion. Wink

There was no change in my views of the facts of the situation whatsoever - I've always thought the poor had no chance and that capitalism was a heirarchy devoid of class-mobility.  I was never one of the Republicans who peddled Horatio Alger nonsense.  However back then I thought it could be maintained that way.. now I think a more stable and inclusive political consensus would try to mitigate the miseries of the lower classes.  Admittedly this comes mostly from a desire to oppose the Religious Party.

I didn't change overnight.. it took a few months.  My discomfort had been growing with the religious influence on the GOP for years, though I said little about it here.  There were two straws that broke the camels back as it were - the anti-gay vote in Missouri, which was shocking.  Worse yet, when I arrived back in Southeast Asia, I discovered there was a major Bush administration push to get these countries to close the sex industry, mostly motivated by the religious intolerants.  I also took a fresh look at the Democrats and noticed they were slightly right leaning economically these days!  Well, the choice of which was the lesser of the two evils was easy after that.

He certainly seems to be able to take negative attention admirably well. Gee...the amount of lying bullsh**t he's getting from so many different corners here...I shouldn't talk with that silly new signature. I think I won't keep it long, though.

admirably well.  I've noticed that too.

Also, totally aside, doesn't The Religious refer to nuns and monks (in the way that The Clergy refers to priests and The Lay refers to members of a parish.)  And what is the difference between "a religious" and "the religious"?  Thanks.
