It's based on a true story, so I'm not sure if there's an inherent "point" to the ending other than to tell us what happened. If we want to infer one, maybe something about the dangers of PTSD? It's hard to tell as the movie is incredibly disjointed and meandering (I didn't mind the content that much, but the form and structure were really poorly done, IMO).

Agreed. Eastwood, Nolan, and Soderbergh oughta be traded out for people who aren't color blind, so maybe movies can stop being so damn dark.
