Story here

Davis worked the campaigns for George W. Bush and John McCain, where he created some decent ads and gained acclaim. However, he is also the man behind some of the most notoriously bad political ads from the past few cycles. Carly Fiornia's Demon Sheep, Christine O'Donnell's "I Am Not a Witch", and Pete Hoekstra's racist Super Bowl ad that doomed his campaign were all Davis's doing.

With so many Republicans running, Republican-leaning political talent has to be running pretty thin.  This is a big get for Kasich's PAC (not, as your headline suggests, his actual campaign - the PAC hired Davis).  Having Fred Davis in charge of media strategy is better than having a neophyte or real nobody.  It's also a good sign that he's actually running.

Fixed the title. And "Fred Davis is better than nothing" is surely a ringing endorsement Smiley.

It's a sign he's running, but that was never really in doubt at this point.

I'd be even more concerned about him hiring John Weaver as chief strategist.

Kasich shouldn't have deliberated so long about getting in the race. The most talented operatives have now all gone to other campaigns.

Definitely a loss for the Carly Fiornia campaign.

Actually this guy is worse than a nobody. this guy seems to be on a steep steep decline from his days with W. Bush. But no doubt the sizable Kasich 4 Prez crowd here will stoop for him.

I'm not part of the Kasich 4 Prez crowd, but when you enter the race after dozens of others already have, there isn't going to be much political talent left to pick from.  You get inexperienced help or the bottom barrel professionals.  Pick your poison.

Weaver is an ideological match.

And the animosity with the base seems mutual. Here's Eric Erickson comparing Kasich to villains Jon Huntsman and John Wilkes Booth.
