Having narrowly survived a convention challenge by Senator Robert Taft, President Warren heads into the general election slightly bruised but still widely popular with the public at large. His opponents are former Governor Henry Wallace for the Populists and Senator Harry Byrd of the Democrats, both of whom are expected to loose spectacularly. If reelected, Warren has pledged to build a "community of nations" to preserve the peace; Wallace has attacked this plan as too exclusionary towards the USSR, while Byrd opposes it altogether and has taken a staunch isolationist stance.

You all are so boring. No one wants to know about what it would be like to have Wallace on the helm during WWII?

Ugh. Utter predictability.

Warren is a good choice, especially with Fiorello La Guardia as his VP.

We already had President Huey Long. One disaster is enough for an era.

1944 Presidential Election

President Earl Warren (American-California)/ Secretary of State Fiorello La Guardia (American-New York): 374 Electoral Votes; 51.2% popular votes
Fmr. Governor Henry Wallace (People's-Iowa)/ Congressman Claude Pepper (People's-Florida): 146 Electoral Votes; 36.6% popular votes
Senator Harry F. Byrd (Democratic-Virginia)/ State Representative Strom Thurmond (Democratic-South Carolina): 11 Electoral Votes; 12.2% popular votes

Defying precedent, Earl Warren coasted to victory in the Election of 1944, defeating his Populist rival, Henry Wallace, by a margin of 14% in the popular vote. Warren's victory was fueled by his successful management of the war effort and a strong economic recovery, allowing him to become the longest-serving president in American history. The Democrats, meanwhile, suffered their worst defeat ever, with Senator Harry F. Byrd winning a smaller portion of the the electoral vote than any Democrat since Franklin Pierce, and the smallest popular vote count of any Democrat in history.
