What I really found interesting, is that beside the disasterous war, Saakashvii is best known for his very succesful anti-corruption policies, and Odessa should be the "Sicily" of Ukraine.

Actually this news is from a couple of weeks ago.  It is not as crazy as one might think.  There are actually a lot of ethnic Georgians in area around Odessa.

Horrible move. Makes me think less of the Ukrainians. Unlike with Ukraine, Georgia was not a victim in their war with Russia, they were the aggressor. Their actors are probably partially responsible for the Ukraine war as well, making Russia paranoid.

The fact that you, and others, were willing to accept Russian propaganda at face value in the Georgian case is, in fact, what is responsible for the Ukrainian war. In reality, thee was remarkably little different in the pattern of Russian aggression in the two cases. Except, perhaps, that Russia did much more thorough ethnic cleansing in the Georgian case.

Saakashvili went to college in Kiev, and speaks fairly fluent Ukrainian (besides Russian, of course). He took Ukrainian nationality before his appointment.
