Just curious how Atlasians who have finished school in the past couple years are faring in their job search.

Are you employed in your field? Underemployed? Returning to school?

I'm already searching for jobs in second year for my co-op program. I have 5 co-op (work) terms mixed in with my academic terms. Had 6 interviews which was a good start thus far. Mostly in the tech area, but also one for a research assistant position at my school, and a position in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.

Coop is fantastic, provides invaluable experience and greatly adds to your degree. If I hadn't done it, I would still be a lazy bum with no experience whatsoever, and I probably would never have been able to go abroad. Is this your first coop work term?

It's horrible. I can't believe I have to compete with other people Wink

I've been underemployed for the year since graduating, working a temp position at my university and substitute teaching. Fortunately for me, a permanent position has opened in my unit that they have indicated they want me for. Things should hopefully look up for me soon.

A year and a half out and still not doing anything related to my degree. Hooray for being poor forever! No student loan debt though, so there's that going for me, which is nice.

Good luck. I have no clue if it's similar in your program and neck of the woods, but I had a tougher time to find my first internship because I had zero experience (besides fake 1-day gigs) and you're competing against fourth years who have 3 coop terms already. I was overly optimistic in the 'first round' because I got like a dozen or so interviews, but none of them were even interested in me when answers came back. But I did end up finding a very good internship fairly quickly after 'first round'. I also only got picked in 'second round' for my 2nd and 3rd jobs, but again it was very quick. At any rate, coop is invaluable. I'd probably be a lazy suburban Ottawa-dwelling little sh**t if it wasn't for coop.

Bad. Still searching 2 years after graduation. Was employed from only one month in my domain (we parted ways, since it became obvious than my skills and their needs were not compatible at all).
