I'll grant that there are some valid reasons to be paranoid, especially for some of the editors and users, but it irks me that Wikipedia has this past weekend gone to HTTPS all the time with no ability to opt out.  Encryption does enhance privacy, but it also hurts performance, and I personally didn't need it. I feel sorry for anyone who accesses it over a smartphone or other metered connection as this'll also mean it uses more data.

Wikipedia quit working altogether on my Windows Seven machine. Works fine on the XP one. Does this have something to do with that happening? My theory would be if that it uses resources then the Windows Seven machine, which is under powered in terms of Ram would experience this problem much more.
