Hillary has an all but clear  path to the Democratic nomination, which should leave Democrats united around the nominee early in the process.

Should all other Republican candidates withdraw from the Republican race for the nomination and give Jeb the nomination early in order to avoid a  bitter nomination battle, and preserve unity in Republican ranks?

Please vote and discuss.

Yes, because Clinton would give him a good thrashing.

Republicans have a recent history of engaging in very bitter and divisive Presidential nomination battles, as well as having several candidates enter the contest who clearly are totally unqualified for the office of President.  Many of these candidates are simply using the Republican nomination race to sound off on their own narrow agendas and or to gain some publicity.

This results in a candidate being nominated after a divisive and bitter fight and after other Republican candidates have been negatively treating them for months, leading a divided party.

I believe in the freedom of expression, however, in the long run, for the better of the party and the country, I would like to see the Republican field rally around Jeb early in the race before damage is done.

Suppose he proves to be a flawed candidate? Bush has made some missteps so far. Anyway, folks are not going to drop out to make way for him, so the point is moot. All of these boys need to be tested under stress, and then tested some more.

You have raised a very good point, and I had given that eventuality some thought, but I do believe Bush is the best one running of all of them.

If they were to drop out and endorse a stronger candidate it wouldn't be for Jeb.

Why Jeb rather than Scott Walker or John Kasich? Why should they all defer to Jeb? Did he inherit the nomination by divine right from his family? It's not like he's leading in the polls by any significant margin right now. No one should be "entitled" to any party's nomination.

Why Bush? Why is Bush entitled to a clear path and not others?

Obviously no. It'll be a divided primary, which may hurt the Republicans later, but there was no escaping that from the beginning.

No

Bush hasn't won anything yet and a contested primary helps a candidate do better in the long run. Look at Obama in 2008, without Hillary he wouldn't have been properly prepped and wouldn't have stood a chance to pick of NC and IN without having to campaign there so late.

Not until he wins primaries in disparate parts of the country.

I think several candidates would drop out if Romney entered, but no one else could have that effect on the field.
