Curious to see what people think about this, since the debate is currently raging in the Assembly.

I don't get where this militant tendency comes from-I doubt that the Northeast has suddenly moved towards smashing a federalist system that works. Are we really that bored?

Nah, exclusive regional control over so many issues would wreck the Atlasia's political ability to solve anything on a national level.

Most Regional governments are too chronically inactive for me to support this.

Most Regional governments are too chronically inactive for me to support this.

I'd argue that part of that is precisely because the power is so centralised in Nyman.

I'm pretty unfamiliar with the debate here, but, to be honest, I'm willing to try lots of idea in the game that I wouldn't normally support in the real world.  Not saying I'm a particular fan of this, but it could be an idea...

I'd argue that it's not the scope of the powers that leads to inactivity but the lack of clear definition of what is a regional and what is a federal power.

I think that's more to the point - we need a clear outline of who has power over what, because at the moment - a regional legislature could be working on a bill and it could be overridden by a federal bill on the same subject. I personally feel that both bodies shouldn't be able to legislate on the same things.

I've referred to the process as "devolution" as the Atlasian Government would be transferring exclusive power over certain things to the regional legislatures.

Well, I don't think regions should be allowed to introduce laws or regulations on many of these things (environment, minimum wage, and education, e.g.) that are below federal minimal criteria OR which are unconstitutional, so as is I would have a very hard time supporting this measure. What's being asked for is simply too sweeping.

I'm a federalist at heart, but I figure we needed to have the debate and hash it out there as to what sort of powers remain with the NE and what powers remain with Nyman.

I DO NOT support independence. Absolutely, unequivocally not.

I would agree with this. Maintaining activity and keeping the pipeline of bills going is difficult when there are so many issues and policy areas that we are simply not allowed to touch.

In the last two sessions, we've had a few bills derailed because of some federal conflict in something passed awhile ago or lack of clarity over what are powers are, so I agree with oakvale and PiT.

They haven't been derailed-you simply decided to wait to pass a minimum wage bill. We get this in the Senate a lot of the time-it's federalism and someone times you can't do what you want
