Obviously a worthless and terrible excuse for a human being (normal), but his legacy as PM doesn't have to be completely terrible. I mean, it probably will be dreadful considering that he's obsessed with flashy superficial stuff, but if he manages to electrify rural India that would be a huge boon to a huge number of the world's poor. The worry is that he will start indulging the desires of Shiv Sana and the RSS, which would be pretty terrible.

FF (Normal) for the fact that he is India's Reagan and is ending all the overt regulations in India on buisnesses, being friendly with Isreal, and understands that Strength leads to Peace. Like Reagan who made the US economy roaring again after being destroyed by LBJ, Nixon, Carter destroyed it, bring back national pride back to the country after Vietnam , and making the country prosperous , Modi is doing the same thing with India.

HP, but better than any of the dictatorial thugs from China. Modi at least settles territorial disputes. Xi creates them.

No it a conspiracy made up by the Congress party in India, all courts found him to have no relation with the riots

I'm pretty sure that Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), particularly those in the United States and United Kingdom, are the BJP's biggest source of funding.

I will be generous with him:

As the above comments illustrate, Narendra Modi clearly has much to answer for.  However, if he manages to reform and reinvigorate India's economy by drastically cutting bureaucratic red tape and corruption, while making up for his past by (truly) reaching out to India's religious minorities (particularly Muslims), he will rightly be regarded as a transformational figure.

In a Nixon-goes-to-China sense, he has a golden opportunity to set things right with India's Muslims while still retaining street-cred with Hindu nationalists in his party.  With his ambition to make India into a world superpower, surely he knows he can't do that with restive minority populations holding India back.  And not in a neighborhood as dangerous as South Asia is.

He's pretty unsavoury but I think there is a good chance that India's institutions are strong enough to prevent any crazy fascism. Given that, I think his economic program is broadly what India needs and the poverty there is so staggering that I'm willing to give some leeway to anyone who advances them in that area. Millions of people could be saved by the right economic reforms in India so I'm gonna be a bit cautious with my condemnations.

Well, yes. India is almost unique in that it can elect blatantly extreme parties of one form or another (in fact of many, many forms) and retain its broadly democratic - well there's parliamentary government and contested elections at any rate - character.

The Hanging Subsistence Farmers of Gujarat would suggest that, rhetoric aside, he's actually pretty sh!t in that whole area.
