You guys are all forgetting gun control. Bill Clinton supported and signed the assault weapons ban and pushed through gun control during his term. Clinton's gun control measures after Columbine were also more extensive than Obama's moderate hero proposals.
Although gun control was much more popular in the 1990's then now. Even Bush in 2004 supported extending the ban for another 10 years. For some reason gun control support has been eroding like opposition to gay marriage is.
