I would have preferred getting rid of Jackson.

About time, I say. Hamilton might have been responsible for the economic survival of the American republic but he never had a vagina.

Terrible decision, should have replaced Jackson. No bill should have two people on it unless those two shared a connection. So unless is like the first prominent banker woman or something, this bill is pointless and nonsensical.

Politicians shouldn't be on money, it's creepy.

Ugh, why not Jackson? If we're going to be changing things why not just redesign them entirely?

Hamilton was perhaps the best of all the Founding Fathers.

WTF? Hamilton is fine -- it is indisputably Jackson who should be stripped from the money. How did the Obama administration blow this one so badly???

LOL at the optics of this. People demand a woman on the 20$, and so they put one on the 10$—did they not a woman on the most widely used* bank note or did they just feel like 20$ was overestimating the value of women two fold? or is this just a moderate hero thing?

well changes in money is not something they do quickly. The $10 was already set to be redesigned and 2020 (the planned release year) is the anniversary of the 19th amendment, so it worked out for the 10 to be the first with a woman.

Maybe as the new generation of money comes out they will replace others on the other bills. But I doubt they will touch Washington or Lincoln and every loves their 'Benjamins.' But Grant and Jackson? Neither is untouchable. Maybe one of them will also be replaced with a woman as well?

I think Obama will make it onto our currency some day, unless paper currency is totally phased out.

*slow clap* Beautiful sideshow by Mr. Lew. At the beginning of the day our entire financial system is under threat from Greece and as I lay in bed, we have a woman on the ten as per his announcement. Lovely prioritization of a nonsense social justice issue over MASSIVE DESTABILIZING THREAT.

Of course, she should replaced Jackson. He wouldn't want to be on Central Bank notes anyway. He's suffered long enough for his misdoings. Long past time to reward a wonderful soul.

Here is a WTF from the Treasury FAQ

So when a woman finally makes her way onto the money she has to share it with a man? Really?

Maybe if they make Hamilton some kind of small watermark, but anything less than having a woman be the featured portrait on all the notes would send a very bad message.

The real moderate hero position would have been to put the woman on one of the 3 rare bills, the $2, $50, or $100.

My guess is that this is the start of a series of new designs, each of which will feature one man and one woman. Probably the choice of woman to honor first that would raise the ire of Republicans most would be Margaret Sanger.  The choice that would cause the least ruffled feathers would be our first female SecTreas but there ain't one. Treasury is one of three cabinet secretaries that have been female, the others being Defense and VA.

Just as the Supreme Court inches towards nationwide legalization of same sex marriage, we now face a new battle for same sex money?

You mean Bess Truman or Nancy Reagan?

I'm really disappointed that they didn't replace Jackson. The joke of annoying Jackson's ghost or whatever with centralized bank-provided paper money was funny for a while, but honoring a jerk like him is not something we should be doing.

I guess having a Hamilton + woman twofer should be okay. Wonder who the woman will be. Harriet Tubman? Eleanor Roosevelt?

Actually, Jackson wasn't against all paper money, just that which replaced specie denominations. That's what makes the 20 a good choice for him. It's the smallest denomination he thought should be paper.
