Here's what I think we should have:

$1 - George Washington
$2 - Thomas Jefferson
$5 - Abraham Lincoln
$10 - Alexander Hamilton and a series of significant American women
$20 - Andrew Jackson
$50 - Ronald Reagan
$100 - Benjamin Franklin

1¢ - Abraham Lincoln
5¢ - Franklin D. Roosevelt
10¢ - Harry Truman
25¢ - George Washington
50¢ - John Kennedy
Dollar Coins: Dwight Eisenhower, Susan B. Anthony and Sacajawea

I'm all for putting a woman on the $20 bill, but I can't think of any women significant enough in US history to deserve that honor.  Maybe in 50 years we can put Hillary Clinton on as the first female president.

All that I'm happy with is that Hamilton's not in the currency.
They's keeping Hamilton on the 10 and putting a woman on the 20 to replace Jackson.

Glad they are keeping Hamilton, maybe they should get rid of Jackson. I am not against the idea of a woman, but I don't know I am sold on any particular woman. As heroic as she was, I can't say I'd be really excited to walk around with Harriet Tubman money.

How about putting Obama on the 20?

LOOOOOOOOOOOVE it! Conservatives would HATE that!

Seems like that's your problem, not American history's problem.

How about Susan B Anthony, the suffragist?

Rosa Parks or Harriet Tubman are much more deserving.

Why, because they're black? Women's suffrage required a civil rights struggle just as important as the fight against slavery and segregation, and Susan B. Anthony should be a top-tier candidate. The infamy of the Susan B. Anthony dollar didn't honor her as intended, and putting her on a bill would make up for that error.

My top 4 picks are (in no particular order):
- Susan B. Anthony
- Margaret Chase Smith
- Harriet Tubman
- Grace Hopper

Considering it'd be the same as putting Reagan on the $20 in 1989, I'd imagine so, LOL.

Sources are saying it's going to be a woman of colour tied to the civil rights movement.  My bet is Sojourner Truth.

Hopefully it'll be a few more years before Hillary or Barack goes on our paper money, as current law bars putting living people on it.

Thank god, Hamilton lives.  Thank you Broadway.
I hope we don't go all PC and get rid of Jackson just for the trail of tears.  That madman is one of the quintessential American characters and an extraordinarily significant president in every way.
Honestly I'd like to see Teddy make it onto a bill before any of our women.

Harriet Tubman was basically a folk hero.  Take gender and race out of the equation and Audie Murphy is just as deserving.
Rosa Parks didn't really do much after her bus sit-down.  She was Jim Conyers' secretary for a while.  MLK is much more deserving of currency, but the dude already has his own federal holiday.
Eleanor Roosevelt is a good choice for her foundational work in the United Nations.
Helen Keller is also an inspirational folk hero.  She had little actual influence and much of her political work stemmed from her fervent communism.
Susan B. Anthony is the real deal.

I have to say though, and this will be very controversial, but I think our currency should be optimistic, forward-looking, and reflect American leadership and great successes.  I don't really like the idea of putting figures on our currency who are famous for their work fixing big problems in our society, like suffragettes or civil rights leaders.  It just feels like being the guy at the party who wants to tell everyone about how he's been sober for 12 years or something.  You can make the argument that a key component of our leadership and image is the way that democracy and peaceful protest can, uniquely in America, bring about positive change, but can we highlight out great successes and big leaders, like FDR, on our paper instead of highlighting the dark parts of our past and our shame and the people who fixed them?

Jackson was horrible, but not just for the Trail of Tears.  His economic policies of abolishing the national bank directly contributed to the Panic of 1837, he supported slavery, and he had a horrendous temper.  The man was basically an American Napoleon-- hot-tempered and power hungry.  But he certainly left his mark on American history, even if it wasn't a good one.  I see no reason to remove him from the $20 bill.

I agree with you that Theodore Roosevelt deserves to be honored on a bill or coin.  If we're going to have a woman on any of our money (or a black, Hispanic, etc.), then we should just start a series of collectible coins like the state quarters or the presidential dollar set.

Well, FDR was put on the dime only a year after he died, so it could happen.

He said "not just for the Trail of Tears", which means in addition to it.  It's possible to be horrible on more than just one issue.  Let go of your pearls!

State quarters is a good idea. They'd enter regular circulation and be used widely. I like dollar coins, but they're so hated by the public that any attempt to put them into circulation would fail without killing the dollar bill.

Read my post again.  I said that Jackson was awful for reasons other than the Trail of Tears.  To be sure, it would be enough to make him an HP, but it's not the only reason why he was.

They've already done state quarters, and now they're doing a new edition called the "America the Beautiful" series, that I think uses natural landmarks.
