My guess is that this is the start of a series of new designs, each of which will feature one man and one woman. Probably the choice of woman to honor first that would raise the ire of Republicans most would be Margaret Sanger.  The choice that would cause the least ruffled feathers would be our first female SecTreas but there ain't one. Treasury is one of three cabinet secretaries that have been female, the others being Defense and VA.

I'm really disappointed that they didn't replace Jackson. The joke of annoying Jackson's ghost or whatever with centralized bank-provided paper money was funny for a while, but honoring a jerk like him is not something we should be doing.
Actually, Jackson wasn't against all paper money, just that which replaced specie denominations. That's what makes the 20 a good choice for him. It's the smallest denomination he thought should be paper.

I'm also perplexed. Even if they plan to overhaul them all, Jackson is obviously the one to start with. Replace him with FDR.
As has already been explained, for reasons having nothing to do with subject matter, the sawbuck was due to be the denomination next overhauled.

get rid of Grant. yes, an invaluable civil war general, but a god-awful president.
Actually the number one reason to get rid of Grant is that the 50 is the only bill today that has no link between the obverse and the reverse as the back of the 50 shows the Capitol.  Clay is without a doubt the greatest member of Congress in History as he was both a great Senator and a Speaker of the House.

Madison already has a denomination as he's on the $5000 bill.

In all seriousness, who are the women who are worthy of money? I find it difficult to really even find men who are worthy of currency except those already on it. Susan B. Anthony has been on money for damn near 40 years.

The Republic of Venice banned the practice of putting the faces of Doges on coins because they believed it to be in violation of republican values and encouraged autocratic behavior from their rulers.

I believe there were several riots over the practice some time in the early modern period that prevented a dead Doge's image from being put into circulation.

Naturally I feel the same way towards our money. No people, put images on instead.

Similar thouts kept individuals off of our coinage until 1892 when the Columbus commemorative half dollar was minted.

But postage stamps and paper money were never held to the same standard of gravitas, probably because of their inherent impermanency.

Hopefully it'll be a few more years before Hillary or Barack goes on our paper money, as current law bars putting living people on it.
