Schneiderman will be the next governor. Who cares about the GOP nominee?

If Rep. Gibson runs I would hardly say "who cares." New York could certainly have a moderate Republican get elected Governor. Maryland is a testament to that.

It's possiible, but very difficult. NYC usually gives too much advantage to Democratic candidate. Much more then even in Pataki's time...

The only GOP chance is if Cuomo runs again, similar to '94 ("ABC"...anyone but Cuomo).  Any other Democrat, no matter how much baggage they have, will win without a problem.  The GOP bench in NY is beyond pathetic now.

Statewide bench. Gibson is fine enough and moderate enough, but he is one of 27 House members from New York, and not especially known to most people of the state, for example... And NYC votes Democratic almost reflexively now. At least - if Republican candidate is not called Michael Bloomberg...

I think Gibson would do really against Cuomo. Idk if thats enough to win, though

May be. But Gibson, while generally very moderate by present day Republican standards, is pro-life. For NY candidate it's rather a minus...

correct me if i'm wrong but he voted against the 20 week ban in 2013. That has to count for something.

I looked here:

http://www.capwiz.com/nrlc/scorecard.xc?chamber=H&state=US&session=113&x=11&y=17

and seems he voted "for". It was Hanna, who voted "against"... But Hanna, obviously, will NOT run for Governor (and, in general, he is more "old school" - rather solidly conservative on economy, but very moderate on "pure social" issues..) - he has his hands full in House with right-wingers repeatedly trying to oust him in primary..
