Don't they only exist on the internet? Never met one, despite most of my friends being nonreligious. Voted KFC because why not.

They aren't actually "militant" because they don't want to force anyone to become an atheist. In fact, lots of them are as "militant" as they are because they see religions doing that and they oppose it.

Mainly, the backlash against them is just liberals who are terrified of saying anything bad about oppressed people (Muslims).

I favor extreme militance in defense of one's country, but oppose it vehemently in domestic matters, regardless of the particular brand of politics being practiced.
