When a Muslim commits an act of terror, we often ask why the Muslim community isn't standing up to repudiate their actions.

Should white Southerners be asked to apologize and condemn Dylann Roof's acts of racial violence?

Should they be asked to take their racist, hateful flag down from their pubic buildings and unequivocally admit, once and for all, that their ancestors were treasonous traitors on the wrong side of history?

No, just like Muslims don't.

They do, however, need to look at their shared history of support for the Confederate flag, and the racist attitudes that still lurk within their community, and work to root them out.

Whether Muslims have similar work to do, I'd say that's a can of worms that probably shouldn't be opened in this thread.

I don't recall anyone asking any Muslims to apologize for acts of terror committed my Muslims. Have I missed something?

And Southern Whites should only be asked to apologize if they are accountable for Roof's acts of racial violence.

Perhaps you could give a link if they are so ubiquitous?

You can't personally apologize unless you personally did something wrong.

Not for this shooting in particular, but for the history of violence and discrimination which has left a lasting legacy of inequality and division in this country, yes.

Well the first link was a no-go, no request for an apology. The second was an article about a Rupert Murdoch tweet:

Here he says Muslims must be held responsible for "their growing jihadist cancer" and in spirit, if not in deed, asks for an apology.

Rupert Murdoch is a flaming idiot and so is anyone who thinks like him.

Your claim is based on semantics. The video shows the Fox anchor and guest demanding the Muslim community speak out against (i.e. apologize for) the attack.

I don't agree that the call to "speak out against" something you did not do, and a call for an apology about something you did not do, are the same thing.

Well, IMO the implication is clear. I guess we can agree to disagree, like Badger said though, there's a lot more of that stuff out there.

Muslims should not be asked to apologize for acts of terror they did not themselves commit. That is unreasonable.

Asking them to condemn, on the other hand, that is reasonable. Especially when the perpetrators cite being Muslim as their justification.

So yes, I would agree it's perfectly reasonable to ask White people to condemn Dylann Roof, since Dylann Roof cited being White as his justification.

As a White person, I condemn Dylann Root. Shooting random Black people is bad. I imagine you will find very few White people who have a hard time saying the same.

How about Southern whites whose ancestral heritage was pro-union (places like East Tennessee, northern Georgia, western North Carolina, ) and were against secession, but still hold what is considered today politically incorrect views?

The way this seems to be ending/beginning, is, Virginia will be suing the long time democrat strongholds of Jim Crow, Robert Bird and his KKK club for theft of a definition and of its property, using the same precedence established possibly from the homosexual wedding thing.

Virginian's will accept the apology and other things, of course.
