No, but it's in my genes, so I generally don't drink much.

This, though less alcoholism and more a general tendency towards addictive personalities.

By most definitions, absolutely.  But I have my own views on what addiction is, so I generally don't believe in the concept.  Convenient?  Yea sure, but the adoption of 12-step programs as the de facto "addiction science" in America is toxic.

Hell no, my family on both sides love it so I tend to stay away at all costs.

I already have enough addictions as it is besides that I don't need anymore.

An aspiring one. I've a feeling once I'm off probation I'll be back on the wagon, so to speak. The best way of restraining myself is through hangovers and finances.

Um, academic probation, or the real stuff if you dont mind my asking? Tongue

There's a history in my family, so I'm trying to be careful.

Yeah, because no 19-year-olds in college ever have alcohol problems.  Right.

the diagnosis our psychiatric masters have come up with for the DSM-V era is "Alcohol Use Disorder".  it has a 12 month lapse date; ie, you no longer have an "active" alcohol use disorder on the 366th day after you last misused alcohol.

Would it be fair to say that after that 366th day that you still have an alcohol use disorder, just that it isn't active? Popular perception states that, for a full blown alco, a single sip can and will put you right back where you started. That's how physical addiction tends to play out.

Anyway, while I wouldn't say that my relationship with this drug is healthy, I also wouldn't say that I'm an alcoholic. Still, I worry sometimes.
