With her bold call to bring down the Confederate flag, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is somewhat of a folk hero.

Should she seek the GOP nomination for President?

Please discuss.

There's a good reason why she hasn't been considered a candidate until now.

It's a bit late for her to enter the presidential race.

But this has helped prove her bonafides as a potential running mate.

As a reelected Governor who adds diversity to the ticket and gets the support of the base, she's a solid fit for most of the major Republicans.

She's a southerner who swing state Republicans can back.

Let's consider the balance of various tickets...

Jeb Bush/ Nikki Haley- A current officeholder in her early 40s is a good fit for the white guy in his 60s who has been out of office for a long time.

Marco Rubio/ Nikki Haley- Diverse ticket of newcomers with different experiences (Senator and Governor) and young families.

Scott Walker/ Nikki Haley- Doubles down on youth and executive experience. Geographic diversity with a white guy from the midwest, and a brown woman from the south.

John Kasich/ Nikki Haley- Executive experience, but a balance of backgrounds, with a white male  midwesterner in his mid-60s and the brown woman from the South.

She'd be in a stronger position if she hadn't run in 2014 on opposing bring down the confederate flag.

I'm amazed that a woman who converted to Christianity to run for higher office is taken seriously at all.

LOL, a little late for a bold call from Haley. Even 3rd way moderate hero Clinton takes a stronger stands on the issues than this.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is somewhat of a folk hero.

I can vouch for this.  In my social circle, we regularly sing songs, or write poetry, about the fabled exploits of Gov. Haley.

Haley would like to be VP.  She does have a number of enemies within the SC GOP, and putting a woman on the ticket isn't going to help much against Hillary.

The controversy with the flag is as equally likely to backfire on her as succeeding. And even if she scored a victory on this it wouldn't change her bad relationship with a lot of Republicans in the state and skeletons in her closet.

Please let me know when and where the next meeting is to be held.  I would love to attend and join in the praise through song and word of this remarkable woman.

If only every poster had the courage to post nonsense threads on such a whim - Winfield is truly the bravest soul among this wasteland.

I like her a lot, but no for the presidency right now. Maybe later on in the future. Maybe for VP, though.

What's people's obsession with trying to make politicians who made one political decision to national stage?

I remember when Jan brewer vetoed the bill that allowed religious businesses to deny services to LGBT some people said she should run for president.

Likewise in another case Wendy Davis became a huge flop despite that standing for hours to prevent a bill with abortion restrictions from being passed and she got slaughtered by Greg Abbott.

Not for 2016....but she could be a serious contender in 2024 if a republican wins in 2016 is male and serves two terms.
