“Even its display on state issued license tags is, in my view, unnecessarily divisive and hurtful to too many of our people."-Gov. McAuliffe. A great decision by a FF governor. http://huff.to/1NgQgZA

By all means, stop issuing the plates with the flag on them, but to go through the process of replacing the ones that are already on the road is a disproportionate response.   Apart from the logistical cost of the replacement itself, these specialty plates have an extra cost to the purchaser of them - Are they going to be reimbursed now from the Commonwealth's treasury?  What happens if people refuse to replace them?   This policy too would be unnecessarily divisive.

The difference in reaction between Gov. Haley and this by Atlas should be priceless.

This is a fantastic decision on his part, but it should not have taken the shooting in SC to get this done.

I'm staying consistent, Rocky. Tongue

Actually, Virginia was under court order to provide Confederate flag license plates until very recently.  This policy couldn't have been changed until the June 18th Supreme Court decision labeling license plates as government speech, not private speech.

But yeah, shame on McAuliffe for waiting 5 days.

Ah, I didn't know that. Good on Governor McAuliffe for expediting this then.

It's still a shame that it took this tragedy to spur Governor Haley into action.

The thing is Virginia really swung to the left recently. Just a decade ago, they had a US Senator (George Allen) who was a total neo-confederate.

Fortunately, Jim Webb dealt him a good thrashing.

Hmm...I wonder if it could possibly because one of them previously publicly defended the use of the flag while the other did not?

FF decision by a FF
