While I doubt that's what the intention of the Second question was, it'd be effing stupid to remove Confederate flags from the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum.

Assuming there are similar results among whites in other southern states, those few GOP candidates brave/opportunistic enough to condemn the Confederate flag are right to fear a backlash in the primaries, especially those held in the former Confederacy.

I would speculate that they feel it would be a symbolic gesture that at best would distract from issues they consider more meaningful, and at worst would stir up the racists into actions like those of Wednesday last week.
