Epic FF for the ages. A creative genius whose passion and vision thankfully lives on to this day. Sure, he had his flaws (he was a big businessman, with all that entails) but the good far outweighs the bad.

The corporate bloodsuckers who control mass media have enough of a hold on the imagination of the youth of America that this has been repressed and there's a lot of counter-propaganda on the internet these days, but it's fairly well established that the man was an unpleasant piece of work - an unrepentant Nazi sympathiser and anti-semite and creator of sentimental tripe.

I dunno about 'creative genius.' Anti-semitism had been around for a long ol' time before Walt gave it his own bit of whimsical charm. I'd also take issue with the idea that the 'good' outweighed the bad, given that the guy paid his cartoonists such low wages (and was such a poor manager) that they had to force the f**ker to recognize their union by going out on strike in the early 1940s.

FF - Frozen Fighter

I know the thing about him being frozen after death is a debunked urban legend, but the movie has had a major cultural impact. It's even affected teaching.  It used to be that "frozen" was a word used in early childhood education to test how well a kid had mastered phonics.  It can't be used for that now because for many kids it's a sight word, i.e., one they know by sight and don't have to decode the phonics to say it.

Massive FF.  A true genius.

You guys do realize he hated Jewish people, right?  Right?  Huh

That's completely false and doesn't have a shred of credible evidence.  Walt Disney hired many Jews, and some of Disney's most prolific songwriters during Walt's time were Jewish.  Floyd Norman, who was Disney's first black animator, was also hired by Walt personally.  He donated to Jewish charities throughout his life.  Although Art Babbitt claimed to have seen Disney at a meeting of Nazi sympathizers, he had an ax to grind with Walt and quit the company during the animator's strike because of the conditions.  When Walt saw a private screening of To Kill a Mockingbird, he said it was the kind of film he had always wanted to make.

If you still believe that Walt Disney hated Jews, just ask Dick Sherman.  Those stories are based on nothing but slander and misinformation.

No, Oldies, just because he hired jewish people, that does not mean he isn't anti-Semitic. Nixon hired the Stein family as speech writers, and it is quite hard to deny that Nixon was an anti-Semite.

the weirdest thing about Walt is that the films he sunk his soul into and deeply loved normally were box office failures, while the stuff that he threw out to make a quick buck typically became the megahits.

Obviously a HP, like all the Golden Hollywood brass; but a very intriguing one.
