I've been offered a job in Madison. This would allow me to simultaneously check two boxes off my bucket list: get a new job, and leave Houston.

Madison is in many ways a nice place to live. It is a young city and one that most people don't seem to have that hard of a time fitting into. I suspect from some of your previous posts that it could be good for you. I am not in Madison and won't be back there until September but if you have any specific questions don't be a afraid to PM me.

If you want to move, do it.

I love warm/hot weather and would love to work in Houston as an adult, but to each his own.

From what I've heard from you, you should take this even if it pays worse.  Don't pass Go, no $200, don't even pay attention to the fact that Scott Walker is probably thinking up ways to nuke the city from orbit as we speak, just do it.

I'm not one to engage in BushOklahoma-style oversharing regarding jobs. All I will say is that the prospective job pays double what I make now and has considerably more room for growth and advancement.

That's fine.

I just wanted to make sure you weren't taking some massive pay cut to leave Houston. Assuming the work-life balance in the new job isn't ridiculous, by all means move to Wisconsin.

Oh, make sure you are prepared to deal with cold weather living. Immigrants where I live often have a hard time picking up stuff like salting your driveway, snow driving etc.

This probably sounds like a very stupid question but keep in mind I grew up on the Gulf Coast and have spent more than one Christmas in shorts and flip flops: do you have to have an AWD car to drive in snow? My current car is a rear-wheel drive convertible that I love to baby and dote on and don't want succumbing to rust.

AWD isn't mandatory but snow tires are. I drive a little Civic all winter Tongue

You may have issues getting winter gear for the convertible though. I literally have never seen one during the winter.

A year in Madison and you'll be Dem Wisconsin.

Do it, Madison is a great place and the Midwest is far superior to Texas.

Yes

Houston is a boring hellhole

Madison is a beautiful city with superior weather and an ample amount of things to do. Twice the pay is also a nice plus.

I'd like to see Atlas Forum change its policy and not allow people to change the user names.
