...idiot who hasn't been updating the wiki. Tongue

These are outdated.

https://uselectionatlas.org/AFEWIKI/index.php/Main_Page

https://uselectionatlas.org/AFEWIKI/index.php/Senate_History

There is no page for the 67th Senate and so on.

These were usually the ones kept most accurate.

There's no record of the June 2015 elections, either. IIRC, the Deputy Attorney General used to be in charge of this, but I'm not sure who took over after that position was abolished.

Hmmm, maybe the President can start appointing a Secretary of the Wiki? (Or maybe "Secretary of National Records" as it sounds more formal.)

How about the National Archivist?

When I was Attorney General, the wiki was updated.

This is actually a good idea.

If I'm elected, I'll propose such legislation.

Well,
I'm not totally sure. But if I recall correctly, Al appointed Simfan as his deputy AG?

In the special Senate election, two of the three candidates to have spoken thus far (Poirot has declared but not yet said anything) have explicitly called for a National Archivist, and Truman seemed to imply approval for it, or at least another solution for the problem. Yankee, a current Senator obviously, also seems to be in favor of this (or at least another solution). And no one seems to be against the idea.

So, there seems to be support for the idea.

Yes, Simfan was appointed to do this.

I'm not outright against a post being created (and assigning it to the AG has always been an uneasy fit) but to be honest I'd be surprised if it solved the main problem, mainly that updating the wiki, as well as being vitally important, is dull and not at all glamorous work. Given that it's always hard to find people to do it.

Yes, Simfan was appointed to do this but not as Deputy AG (the post does not exist!). There was also supposed to be an arrangement with the Senate Leadership to make sure that it happened (i.e. notification would be given by the Senate Leadership to the person responsible for updates, who would then update). I have documentation on all of this, incidentally Smiley

If no one else does it I'll update the Statute page tomorrow. But with regards to the other pages, if you care so much why don't you do it yourselves? Let's appoint another functionary = typical fantasyland logic and an example of why the game is choking to death.

I have a rudimentary knowledge of wiki updating, which doesn't extend to updating history pages unfortunately. I also don't know how to create new pages, only update existing ones and I preferred not to "learn on the job" on the statute pages. I am presently working on five different bills, I maintain a polling firm, I run a political party, and for a long time I ran the Senate on top of that. I have a very physically demanding job in real life and therefore I don't consider it to unreasonable to decline to add this courtesy to my present load.

For a while people where "doing it themselves" I would reckon, but when that person burns out you cannot exactly bitch about them no longer doing since it wasn't their responsibility, but merely a courtesy. Nix should definately be commended in this regard and bgwah for many years as well did much to keep it updated even when they weren't AG or whatnot.

When it can do is focus attention on who is officially tasked with such and find out why it isn't being done. The statute pages are the responsibility of the Department of Justice, SEnate rules were handled by VP though it almost always ended up being myself, throughout my time as PPT, that actually did the updating. Regions handle their pages, not sure who was tasked with the main page.

Al, if there was a lapse in communicate between the Senate leadership and your department, why hasn't this been brought to the attention of the full Senate?

Just updated the statute page and stopped as soon as I lost the will to live. More of it later, presumably.

Basically that's the issue: it's tedious work in the extreme and not really appreciated. We should train monkeys to do it.

Senate PPT should have responsibility to do it after each bill gets passed IMO.

I agree with Nix, it's not particularly difficult to update the wiki. (I'm updating the Mideast wiki for example)

I see your point, but I fear that many PPTs would neglect this "side duty" just as many AGs does.

Dunno, man, but some people would just accept it for the sake of holding an office.

Who the hell would want the job of "Wiki Secretary"?

Presumably one of the morons who thinks that everything is a-okay in Atlasia right now and that, if we just tried harder (Smiley) things would get active and hunky-dory again!

Nothing is fine in Atlasia. But if you insist on shrinking the game to match the ever shrinking number of people willing to put up with all this nastiness, you will find you have sent it on a one way ticket to hell. I refuse to let you flush this game down the drain.

You might be on to something, by having non-humans do it.

Is there a way to create a computer program to update the wiki with dry facts (information on laws, election results, etc.) and people can add more interesting stuff (biographical pages on citizens, events in Atlasian history, etc.)?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I'm not saying Atlasia's "a-okay." I'm just saying that we should try to make it better with new ideas and probably new people (I detailed it more on the Doomsday Poll thread).

This isn't a matter of realists (you) vs. naive optimists (me), this is a matter of pessimists (you and other Doomsdayers) vs. people who want to find solutions to make it survive. Positioning yourself as the Only Sane Man in this debate is fallacy.
