Impressive, but one must not forget that Madison is a rather liberal city.

The trajectory for Sanders is clear. He has galvonized the (primarily white) liberal wing of the party. The people ready to rally behind Warren are now his. This is the same group that got behind Dean in 2004. They are a big part of the Dem party and he appears to have them locked up (sorry O'Malley). Barack Obama also had this group in 2008. The reason that Obama won and Dean didn't is because he also brought along the non-whites.

Can Bernie get the non-whites on his side? Probably not. So he will have big rallies, do well with fund-raising, be huge online and essentially do everything else Dean did, including lose.

No, he'll win Vermont quite easily.

That's not why Dean lost. Obama won Iowa and turned the campaign on its head. After being on course to win it, Dean lost Iowa to Kerry by quite a bit, creating momentum for Kerry, reverse momentum for Dean, compounded by a media feeding frenzy and an inaccurate piece of video played ad infinitum, that served like a barrage of attack ads. Then Kerry won his second white state New Hampshire, pulling off a rare double sweep, and had unstoppable momentum.

I still think it'll be difficult for Sanders to win New Hampshire but if he does it'll be a political earthquake unlike anything we've seen. I agree Hillary's support with black voters (anyone recall Shadow of a Wave arguing blacks were reluctant to support her because of residual bitterness over 2008?) would create an obstacle for Sanders but it's not that they don't like Sanders as much as that they don't know him.

I'm curious what would be happening if Warren were running and there was less of a gender gap.

And Hilldog can't even get 3.000 paid visitors to her campaign events.

This is going well for Bernie, Hilldog won't even know what hit her when the fun begins next year.

The dirty attacks will come out. Like that Sanders is a misogynist communist Israeli or something. And then there will be the PUMAs again.

He really is. His voters are crazy about him, thinks he makes all the sense in the world, and can't believe more people in the party don't support him. In the end, it only amounts to a decent floor but a pretty low ceiling.

He'll take Vermont and maybe another.

Will that make him the first Jewish man to win a state presidential primary?

Barry Goldwater, although a lifelong Episcopalian, had a Jewish family on his father's side. His last name was previously Goldwasser, and he sometimes referred to himself as Jewish (in a heritage way).

You're Jewish through your mother's side, so technically he's not Jewish. Bernie Sanders is almost stereotypically Jewish.

Obama was also a black Marxist from Kenya and he still defeated her.

Which means she can be re-defeated by Bernie.

Paul (and his son) never had a chance though.

Sanders has (he's already polling much higher than Paul ever has, in NH).

Cool. He still has zero chance though.

The Pauls were/are out of step with their party's rank and file in major ways. That's not the case with Sanders.

Crowd size means literally nothing.  Its not an indicator of anything other than the enthusiasm of a candidates core supporters, which is not at all related  to how well a candidate will do with the broader electorate.  The fact that we need to go over this again and again every single election is ridiculous.

If people are going to post a new thread every time Sanders has a rally, we should probably instead consolidate this into a mega-thread.

Comparing Sanders to Paul is ageist but the kind of lazy comparison one expects in a place like this where no one is paying much attention to the election. Paul was broadly unacceptable to the GOP. Sanders is not. Paul never endorsed Romney or McCain. Assuming Clinton wins, she will need Sanders's endorsement and he will give it to her.
