Likely the most boring possible matchup. Discuss with maps.

No one donates $ to either campaign.  So neither of them is able to afford to run campaign ads or attend rallies not within driving distance of their respective homes.  Thus, Gilmore wins the mid-Atlantic states (by default) and Chafee wins New England plus New York (by default).  Voter turnout in all other states is zero, because the candidates are too uninspiring to motivate anyone to go to the polls.

However, at the last minute, a handful of Chafee votes are discovered in the Southwest.  It's the Mexican druglords that Donald Trump warned us about!  They're eager to see the US convert to metric, so that their junkie customers will better understand the quantities they're buying.

So Chafee wins, the US goes metric, and Donald Trump is more unhappy than ever.

Generic R vs Generic D

Gilmore: 307 EV
Chafee: 231 EV

(give or take CO/NV)

When did PA, IA, VA, and NV become solid R?

If Gilmore managed to lose in Virginia by over 30 points I don't think he can ever win their state wide again let alone those 3 other states.
