Regardless of what you think of government involvement in marriage.

I say yes, as I believe any consenting adults should have the freedom to be married and the liberty of not being stopped if they want to (In Favor, I/O).

No. I believe marriage should be between two consenting individuals. Whether they're straight, gay, or whatever.

yes in principle but there's a lot of problems that'd have to be worked out.

Polyamory happens anyway, and it isn't immoral. So why does it become immoral when polyamorous people try to get the same benefits as monogamous people?

This is a toughie, both for legal finickity reasons - inheritance, taxation etc and (perhaps more nebulously) for moral reasons. Polygamy, normally, leads to higher rates of polygyny than the other way round. That leads to bad news for both men (higher intrasexual competition and more lonely unsatisfied losers is never a good thing for societal stability) and women, who are further locked in what is ultimately a patriarchal system. I'd much rather tear down the legal aspects of marriage, and make it a purely symbolic union; while simultaneously ending the cultural roots of patriarchal systems, so that polygamy wouldn't lead to an inevitably imbalanced affair.

No, but the arguments against it have no legal ground to stand on.

In principle, but as evergreen mentioned, you'd have to find a way for it to work with the current system - how would divorces and inheritance be handled, how power of attorney would be treated, how tax benefits and penalties would be assigned, etc.

Here is an article advocating it.  One argument that the author of the article does not address/attempt to refute, that to me might of the most concern as a public policy matter is that it will tend to lead to a surplus of eligible males to females, as the alpha males collect multiple wives (unless offset by more males going gay, which is unlikely, or even more unlikely, there are enough polygamous marriages involving one woman and multiple men). Societies with a big surplus of males that can't find a wife, can be destabilizing to society, and even make it more warlike.

Sorry that I put up a duplicate thread to this. I think I will merge my thread into this if I can. And I have now done so.

I have no moral issues against it, but the legal issue seem complicated.

No, not at all, and if it ever comes to it then I don't think I would support the concept/institution of marriage. I also frown on harems and spouse collecting/disenfranchising.
