I'm going to hazard that it is a reference to the Russian Naval Jack

HF - What is it with people and using either crosses or a trio of bars over and over again with slight alternations of colour and configuration? It looks like they rotated a Norwegian flag.

By definition a freedom flag, though I strongly prefer the DPR's flag.

DPR? The Donetsk People's Republic?

Horrible flag since it basically represents Russian imperialism.

The people of a region deciding (in an overwhelming majority vote, mind you) to leave Ukraine and join Russia is Russian imperialism? It must be some powerful force, to be able to garner 80+% of the vote in the regions that voted to leave Ukraine!

Perhaps there's majority support, but the fact that there's Russian soldiers in the region doesn't really help claims of legitimacy. Especially in Crimea. If a region of one of the US's neighbors was unhappy with a change in government in their own nation and voted to join the US after undercover US soldiers were stationed there, would it not be American imperialism?

Sure they voted to join, but the legitimacy of the vote would be in question and it would be a clear sign of America meddling in the territory of another nation. So it is the same with Russia and eastern Ukraine. Especially Crimea, which as I recall, didn't even have a "no" option on their ballot. If the same situation had somehow happened with Alberta in Canada, or Sonora in Mexico, would it not be American imperialism?

Even ignoring the legitimacy of said polls, You realize Novorossiya is a supposed idea that covers all of south east ukraine? Are you going to claim all of those areas support being invaded by the Novorossiyan forces?
