one suspects that she would respond to direct racist abuse in much the same manner as her great uncle; i.e. with sudden surprisingly effective physical violence
Could you elaborate on this?

Tom Blenkinsop (Labour - Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland)

Formerly high up in the Community union.

And in one of those constituencies where the Community union has a degree of political clout over Labour selections. Spent much of his first term as an MP engaged in a factional war with the now former dominant players in the Labour group on Redcar & Cleveland council: he won and there were many deselections. Succeeded the late (and very popular) Ashok Kumar in 2010.

Here's a list from Wikipedia of other famous incidents

I see Michael Heseltine's mace swinging is in there, but not the 1990 incident involving another MP - I forget his name - doing the same... and dropping it.

Think you mean Ron Brown (Edinburgh Leith) though it was 1988 not 1990.

Yes, that's the one. I would have pulled out my copy of Potty Politics from 1996 otherwise.

Yes, I have been interested in politics from a young age, although I won't say how long ago that was.

He was later found guilty of criminal damage after trashing the flat of his ex mistress, though was found not guilty of stealing her underwear.

Paul Blomfield (Labour - Sheffield Central)

Former NUS man and anti-apartheid activist. Had surgery for a benign brain tumour during the last parliament. Nearly lost to the Lib Dems in 2010 but, as with most of that type of seat, it is safe now.

2010 majority: 165
2015 majority: 17,309

He seems genuinely popular in his constituency from what I can tell, and I've encountered him a couple of times and was pretty impressed.  The number of "Re-elect Paul Blomfield" signs outside big Victorian villas in Broomhill and Nether Edge whose inhabitants 30-40 years ago would have voted Tory (and whose inhabitants 5 years ago may well have voted Lib Dem...) was quite noticeable.  Before becoming an MP, he was a manager of the University of Sheffield's student union.

Crispin Blunt (Conservative - Reigate)

Came out as gay in 2010 and was deselected by his constituency party in 2013, though it was later overturned. Army veteran. One of those who undermined IDS.

Funny that his first name contains 'Crisp', huh.

Out of curiosity, are there any Mormons in this Parliament? I imagine there's only one or two, and probably Tories, but I'm just curious.

David Rutley (Macclesfield - Conservative, 2010-)
Chris Whittaker (Calder Valley - Conservative, 2010-)

In the past there was also Terry Rooney (Bradford North - Labour, 1990-2010). And that's all.

There was one in Scottish Parliament, Brian Adam fron 1999 to his death in 2013, for SNP (list MSP for North East Scotland 1999-2003, MSP for Aberdeen North 2003-2011, for Aberdeen Donside 2011-2013).

There is also the UKIP MEP for Wales, Nathan Gill.

Thanks! I enjoy collecting the names of all Mormon politicians not in Utah, Idaho, Arizona, or Wyoming, so if you ever run into the names of Mormons in other parliaments, PM me.

Peter Bone (Conservative - Wellingborough)

A particularly nasty right-winger; one of those who proposed an 'alternative Queen's Speech' which included such charming policies as reinstating capital punishment and banning the Burka. Once said that the NHS would "not be out of place in Stalin's Russia."

Probably his greatest Commons moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkGpXM85qJE

Luciana Berger   (Labour/Co-operative - Liverpool, Wavertree)

Formerly on the NEC of the NUS, she is known as a leading Zionist voice within Labour and has on several occasions received public anti-Semitic abuse. Also, she is the great niece of Attlee government minister Manny Shinwell.
And has had quite the relation with various members of the CLP who aren't so fond of her

Victoria Borwick (Conservative - Kensington)

Former Deputy Mayor of London and Member of the GLA. Twice contested the Tory nomination for Mayor ("London needs a redhead, not Red Ken"). In her Wiki photo she bares a striking resemblance to a recently deceased British celebrity.

A very nice person who is incapable of processing large pieces of information.
She's a pretty stereotypical Tory wife.

She's Sir Malcolm Rifkind's successor, right? Elected in 2015.

Yep. It was unfortunate the Telegraph didn't release the whole saga a couple of months later, after the nomination deadline.

Borwick can be considered a better fit than all her predecessors; she actually lives in the constituency.
