Ann Coffey (Labour - Stockport)

Former PPS to Alistair Darling. Devotes much of her time to tackling child abuse.

Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrat - Sheffield Hallam)

Lol.
My compatriot.

Many media, also in the Netherlands, lazily copy that he doesn't have a foreign accent in Dutch, yet it seems he does. However, I'm being nitpicky and his Dutch is still extremely good.

When meeting EU politicians at Downing Street, it was common for Clegg to speak in their language rather than English, much to the annoyance of Cameron's spies who couldn't crib what was being discussed....

Therese Coffey (Conservative - Suffolk Coastal)

A Liverpool FC supporter, oddly enough. Previously a failed European election candidate.

Considered by Quentin Letts as the natural successor to Ann Widdecombe

Damian Collins (Conservative - Folkestone and Hythe)

The successor to Michael Howard. Was talked of a lot as 'one to watch' a few years ago but seemingly hasn't gone very far. Oh, and Farage considered standing against him before choosing South Thanet.

Cricket fan in a very marginal seat.

Julie Cooper (Labour - Burnley)

Was council leader prior to being elected and contested the seat in 2010. The Lib Dems actually held up quite well here.

There was a clear pattern of voters who would otherwise have voted Tory voting LibDem in some seata where Labour were menacing a LibDem incumbent.

Rosie Cooper (Labour - West Lancashire)

Was once a Liberal councillor in Liverpool, contesting parliamentary elections for the party, before switching to Labour in the late 90s. Voted against gay marriage. Her seat has, like many others in that part of the country, clearly trended towards Labour in recent years.

Yvette Cooper (Labour - Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford)

Former cabinet and shadow cabinet member, wife of Ed Balls, leadership contender this year. Though most reading this thread will have already known those facts. Very much in the Brownite mould of her husband, though far duller. Oh, and there were a lot of false rumours thrown around about her leadership prospects in the closing days and weeks of the leadership election...she ended up with a lower percentage than in the YouGov polls. A lesson, perhaps.

Jeremy Corbyn (Labour - Islington North)

Backbencher and a rather rebellious one, IIRC.

Oddly, he got pretty much the same vote share in Angus as he did in South Leicestershire...

Not so much in Burnley as in some of the others (Bradford East*, Cambridge, Sheffield Hallam, Leeds North West, Hornsey & Wood Green).  Compared with the other Lab gains from Lib Dem (and Hallam and Leeds NW) it had the smallest increase in the Labour share, but of course it is not demographically typical of them.

* Though I suspect the high Tory share there in 2010 was partly biraderi-driven, so the big Tory fall may not be down to tactical voting in the same way as in the others.

Geoffrey Cox (Conservative - Torridge and West Devon)

Lawyer, took the seat from the Lib Dems in 2005 and now has a very big majority mostly due to the collapse in the Lib Dem vote.

Jo Cox (Labour - Batley and Spen)

New intake, nominated Corbyn. This has got to be one of the least swinging seats (between the two main parties) in the country, hasn't it?

Usually elects MPs not afraid to toe the party line (whether Labour or Conservative). Previous MP was the agent of McDonnell in both his leadership runs.

To illustrate PM point, swing since the seats was created in 1983:
1987: 0.3 to Con
1992: 0.0
1997: 7.7 to Lab
2001: 0.1 to Lab
2005: 0.8 to Lab
2010: 2.5 to Con
2015: 1.7 to Lab

1997 majority: 6141
2015 majority: 6057

Its Tory MP from 1983 to 1997, Elizabeth Peacock, was a maverick right-winger of the sort who can become very popular with the electorate.  She also stood again in 2001, and it's clear she had a substantial personal vote: look at the big Tory fall against the trend in 2005, as well as the way she managed to hold what was a very narrow gain in 1983 in both 1987 and 1992.

Neil Coyle (Labour - Bermondsey and Old Southwark)

His victory in May over Simon Hughes was perhaps one of the most symbolic results of the night, along with Nuneaton, South Thanet etc. He also nominated Corbyn for the leadership.

Richard Benyon   (Conservative - Newbury)

Another Army veteran. Between 1997 and 2010 he had a kind of Disraeli-Gladstone thing going on with David Rendel in this constituency - all four of those elections were between those two. Now he likely (barring scandal) has the seat for as long as he wants it.

I didn't realise you'd already done him

My local MP - with absolutely no opposition.  Will take the Lib Dems to become electable again for the Tories to be defeated here.

David Crausby (Labour - Bolton North East)

MP since he gained the seat in 1997. Voted against the Iraq War, voted against gay marriage. Narrowly lost here in 1992 and also contested Bury North in 1987.
