Bush's favorables are so much worse than 'joke' candidates like Trump, Cruz, Carson, and Paul.

Trump's race baiting of Mexicans is brilliant. Most Republicans are too polite to say they hate Mexicans, and have to say they don't like illegal immigration but are fine with legal immigrants.

Trump is the first guy running to tap into the racist xenophobia of Republicans in a more open fashion. It is a brilliant campaign tactic in the primary, but reprehensive morally.

On the GOP side, who leads among...?
moderates: Christie
somewhat conservative: Bush
very conservative: Walker
men: Trump
women: Huckabee
age 18-45: Trump
age 46-65: Bush/Walker tie
age 65+: Bush/Huckabee/Trump tie

The age thing is interesting, as I think we've seen this in other recent polls as well.  Trump's support in the GOP primary is driven by Gen X/Y.  He's at 29% among those under age 45, which is his best demo.  His favorability (among Republicans) in the under 45 age group is 65%.

Among the Dems:

whites:
Clinton 45%
Sanders 24%

blacks:
Clinton 72%
Sanders 12%

men:
Clinton 46%
Sanders 29%

women:
Clinton 62%
Sanders 13%

If only white men could vote in the Democratic primary, Sanders would have a decent shot.  Tongue

Apparently, almost all white young men want Sanders to meet Trump in the general while almost all non-white, older females want Clinton to meet Bush in the general. Tongue

That tells me that the youngs are still idealistic and the slightly older ones are more realistic. Smiley

Jim Webb supporters hate Clinton and Sanders according to the crosstabs; it's a little surprising they're still Democrats.  Maybe they haven't seen the writing on the wall?

And who the heck are the 15% of "very conservative" Democratic primary voters supporting Bernie Sanders

There are actually Republicans supporting Sanders. And I mean really supporting, not some attempt at sabotaging the Democratic party. Sanders didn't get 71% of the vote in his last election by appealing only to liberals.

He outperformed Obama by 4 points in 2012.  Sure, that's nice, but there were 11 other Senators who outperformed Obama by as much or more, including some like Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, who did more than 12 points better than him.

Senate races are much less polarized than presidential races.  This means that incumbents without serious opposition like Sanders can coast by without receiving the same media scrutiny and criticism that the president does.
