Inspired by a blurb I saw on the news feed in the elevator at my office that 10% of married couples had the same major and that religion/theology majors were four times as likely to marry someone who shared their major as people with other majors were.

I was the first to complete college on either side of my family. My first degree was a BA in Math and Physics, followed by MS and PhD in Physics (Experimental Elementary Particle Physics). None of my siblings completed college, but I married a Philosophy major. My daughter has completed a BS and MS in Aerospace Engineering and my son is studying towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

I don't know if my Paternal Granddad went to college, so N/A for him

And I never bothered to ask what my other Grandparents majored in. I know what careers they went with, but major =/= living once in a while.

My parents were Music majors

As for me, English at the moment.

Maternal Grandfather: Marketing (I think?)
Mom: Communications (marketing concentration)
Me: Finance/Econ
Brother: Econ(/Chem?)

All other direct relatives are N/A. I guess that's not helpful for OPs married couples theory, but I believe there is some small business influence on that side bring passed down.

Wow, I definitely come from a different background than a lot of you.  Part of it is because my family is probably a generation or two older than most of yours.

Both of my parents were HS graduates.  (On my dad's side, there were only 3 out of the 11 siblings who did graduate high school.)

I think my grandparents probably had about 16 years of schooling between them.

By the way, I'm an only child, and my major was architectural engineering.
