Kim Not Dead, Flexes Muscle with Test

A report issued several weeks ago claimed that North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-Un was dead and the pariah nation was being led by a pro-Russian troika. However, Kim today proved that the report was false. North Korean State TV aired footage of Kim inspecting a new housing complex in Kaesong, as well as speaking to a meeting of the Supreme Guard Command. A report released today by Japanese officials states that North Korea tested an underground nuclear test which, if confirmed, would be the nation's fourth since 2006. An underground test would be consistent with earlier reports that North Korea had received nuclear weaponry from Russia. The Atlasian Republican could not independently confirm this report but feels very confident in the Japanese official they spoke to.

Northeast Senate Race Thrown Into Turmoil

The race to fill the Regional Senate seat vacated by now-Southern Legislator Talleyrand was expected to be a walk for the left, which holds a strong majority (in terms of voters registered per party) in the Region. Interim Senator RPryor03 (CR), who was appointed by Governor Sawx (TPP), ran in the race for the full term, as did former Representative Clyde1998 (Lab). Although down by one in the first preference votes, RPryor03 was able to win the race - by Governor Sawx's count as Acting Chief Judicial Officer - in second preferences. However, the election did not end there. For the last day and a half, citizens from all over Atlasia have been writing in to Governor Sawx's office calling for a recount, for certain voters to be excluded, or for certain voters to be included. Because of how close the election was (Senator RPryor03 won by 1 vote) any changes in the voter tally would change the results and put a new Senator in Nyman. At the time of publishing, Governor Sawx has held firm on his decision and count, which puts RPryor03 in the Senate. The Atlasian Republican will be following this race and any further action taken very closely.

Public Split, Slim Majority for Convention

The talk of a Constitutional Convention to provide radical change to the Atlasian system of government has been controlling public discourse since the beginning of July. Led by Atlasians United For A Constitutional Convention (led itself by General Secretary Classic Conservative, Fed.) the movement has sparked a healthy debate within Atlasia, with a new political party (A New Start) being founded in support of the idea of radical change. A poll taken by The Atlasian Republican found that 54% of Atlasians support a Constitutional Convention, while 30% are unsure and 16% do not support a Constitutional Convention. In a poll held concurrently, 31% of Atlasians said they want to dissolve Atlasia, 33% want a referendum on the fate of Atlasia, and  36% are looking forward to legislative action on the fate of the nation and its government.

AG charges Senator with Treason

The Attorney General has just announced that he has formally filed charges against Senator North Carolina Yankee (Fed.). The charges include rebellion, aiding rebellion, seccession, and other attempts to demean and ignore Federal law. These charges come days after a "NCYankee has killed Atlasia" movement began - a movement that has largely been decried as baseless and partisan. Many Atlasian citizens worry that these charges are follow a similar suit, with Dave Treep of the South saying "I'm worried that politics are being played in our judicial system." The Attorney General has said that he has firm evidence incriminating Yankee. The Atlasian Republican will be following the case closely.

NE Gov Removed From Rolls

One of the most popular and successful Governors in recent memory, Sawx (TPP-NE), has been removed as a registered voter. The Registar General confirmed such this evening, throwing the Northeast and TPP in to disarray. Sawx was widely respected by members of all parties and had led the Northeast for several months now. Currently there are two candidates from the Left in the running to replace him. Game Moderator DKrol briefly considered a run for the post, but felt firmly committed to his duties as GM and will play a minimal role in any campaign for the Governorship.

BREAKING: TNF Calls Commie Coup, Invades Pacific

Overnight, news has broken that Midwest Governor TNF has claimed power within his region in a self-described communist coup. Earlier this week, TNF had come under fire for failing to properly open elections for regional offices. Last night we learned that he had intentionally done so in order to achieve his coup. He also took several strong hits at Neyman in the Federal Government - as well as ordered an invasion of the Pacific - only hours after Attorney General Al Sibboleth brought charges of treason against longtime Senator North Carolina Yankee - a respected figure of the Atlasian Right. Calls have been made on the Attorney General to bring charges against TNF but as of publishing there has been no response from the Attorney General or the White House on the crisis.

Atlasians markets are reeling at the news of the Communist Coup and Pacific Invasion. As the New York Stock Exchange opened today, all major Indexes were down. The Dow Jones fell nearly 900 points in the first three hours of trading - to a one year low of 17,038 - with the S&P 500 and NASDAQ following similar suits. A broker with the firm Martin Financial told The Atlasian Republican that investors are "done" with the volatility of Atlasian politics. He went on to say "We need security and stability. These coups, rebellions, and terror attacks - we're not sure about the return in our investment. The risk is not worth the reward." It is expected that the President will close the NYSE and other Atlasians exchanges to halt any further declines.

Vice President Flees Country, TNF Advances

In what has become a whirlwind 24 hours for Atlasia, Vice President Averroes Nix has fled the country and is currently in hiding in Cuba. Sending out a message from an undisclosed location in the Communist state, the Vice President assured Atlasians that he was monitoring situations in the Midwest close "on behalf of the administration". Some political observers have taken that as a hint that a coup has taken place, with Averroes Nix taking power from President Bore - who today came out and released a statement calling for the death of Atlasia as a nation - although Bore has issued an Executive Order dealing with the stock market crash, throwing confusion in to the whole affair.

Midwest Governor-turned-Communist Chairman TNF has ordered the forces loyal to him to advance in to the Pacific. A force of approximately 5,000 Red Army soldiers have made their way in to Salt Lake City and what used to be Utah, facing harsh opposition from both the citizenry and those forces loyal to Governor Simfan. Reports of the Communists taking over New Mexico have been proven to be false, although several small clashes have been fought in the Northern portion of the state. Another report, issued by the Communists' Central Propaganda office, claims that Snowstalker has been "rescued" and returned to the Midwest. However, nothing that The Atlasian Republican can find can confirm this.

• Several agents of the Communist Rebellion of the Midwest have been arrested in the Pacific by Governor Simfan's SAOC.

• On orders from President Bore, several brigades from the Army of Atlasia are advancing on TNF's headquarters in the Midwest. As the Army moves in, many of the soldiers of TNF's Red Army desert and lay down their arms.
• The London Stock Exchange opens lower - but not as steeply lower as recent days - on news that an end to the Communist Rebellion in Atlasia is likely coming to a close.

SWE, TNF Captured - Communist Crisis Over

In a turn of good news for a reeling nation, the Communist Rebellion and Crisis has finally come to a close. Early this morning the Northeast National Guard - acting on orders from Acting Governor Pikachu - conducted a raid on former Senator SomeoneWhoExists' home. SWE was in the home at the time and was taken in to custody by the National Guard. No one was injured in the raid. Charges from the Northeast Government are expected to be forthcoming.

This lead the Atlasian Army to step up their operations within the Midwest in their hunt for TNF. Only hours after senior commanders were informed of SWE's capture in the Northeast, an elite squad infiltrated TNF's compound and conduct a thorough sweep, finding the Communist leader in his bedroom. He was immediately arrested and transported, via helicopter, to an undisclosed location. During this raid one soldier was injured by one of TNF's bodyguards but his wounds are not serious and he is expected to recover.

FYI - The Northeast Chief Judicial Officer has no power to lay charges.  That's technically up to the Executive Branch.  There is a bill before the Assembly to allow the Acting Governor to name a special prosecutor.  As CJO, I would preside over any trial.

SoEA Kalwejt Dispatches Special Envoys

Secretary of External Affairs Kalwejt today announced that he has dispatched nearly a dozen special envoys to Atlastia's key allies over the recent Communist Rebellion. Those nations that envoys were sent to include the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the European Union, Israel, Russia, India, China, South Korea, Japan, and Australia. The envoys were tasked with briefing the leaders of those powers on the Crisis, the response to it, and the future of Atlasia going forward.  All nations were supportive and relieved to hear that the Crisis had been put down relatively bloodlessly and that Atlasia was functioning as normal. Commentators are hailing Kalwejt, who took office in the middle of the Communist Crisis, as "the new face of Atlasia" and the most prominent representative of President Bore's administration.

France Elects New President

Nearly three months after Francois Hollande died, the people of France have elected a new President. Gérard Larcher (LR) has served as Acting President since Hollande was gunned down by a political extremist. The first round was a very crowded field, as most French elections are, with both Martine Aubrey (Mayor of Lille) and Manuel Valls (Prime Minister) running for the Socialists, Larcher running for the Republicans, Marine Le Pen (MEP) running for National Front, and Jean-Christophe Lagarde (MP, Mayor of Drancey) running for the Union of Democrats and Independents. Former President Nicholas Sarkozy was widely expected to run, but chose to sit it out following his 2014 corruption charges. Valls and Larcher advanced to the second round run-off election, held two weeks later. After all the voters were counted, Acting President Gérard Larcher was elected to a full five year term with 52% of the voter, compared to the 48% won by Manuel Valls.

Confederacy Damages Assessed

An independent committee, which has been researching the effects of the Confederate Rebellion that gripped several states a few months ago, has released their report. The committee interviewed local businesses, regional authorities, economists, and historians when compiling their report. Speaking at a press conference in Charleston, West Virginia, Mideast, Chairman of the Committee on the Impacts of the Confederate Rebellion Jack Daniels said "There is no cause, based on our research, for long-lasting economic depression or infrastructure damage caused by the rebellion. All issues can be corrected in the short term". The Committee's reports cites only minor damage caused by the Rebellion to infrastructure - several railway lines were damaged and a bridge was partially destroyed when the Confederates were making their final stand. Daniels estimated the costs of repair for all damages from the Rebellion at $34.5 million, adding "This is a very liberal estimate".

Breaking: India Advances Over Border

Using satellite imaginary, sources within the Atlasian Army have confirmed to The Atlasian Republican that Indian forces have advanced across their border with Pakistan in the Sahiwal Division of the Islamic nation. For the last several days nearly 20,000 Indian soldiers were seen massing along the border, and early this evening (EDT) the order was given to advance. The Pakistanis were not caught off guard, as they too saw the Indians organizing, and have mounted a resistance against the two Divisions of the Indian Army. Both countries are nuclear powers.

Breaking: Explosions in Nyman

Reports are flooding in to The Atlasian Republican office that several explosions were heard and seen at various locations in Nyman. An explosion was reported some ten minutes ago at the entrance to the Attorney General's office, followed by another explosion four minutes later outside of the Department of External Affairs. Local authorities have taken steps to evacuate other buildings within Nyman, in the event of a wider attack.

Breaking: Assassination Attempt Foiled

The Atlasian Republican can now confirm that a wider conspiracy against Atlasia is underway. A pair of men were apprehended by local officers, carrying several loaded guns and several hundred dollars in cash. Upon interrogation, the two men told police they were out to assassinate Senate Speaker Cris. A preliminary police investigation has found that both men were members of Reality or Nothing.

Breaking: Third Bomb Attack in Nyman, Second Assassination Foiled

The Atlasian Republican can now confirm that another bomb detonated within Nyman today. The third bomb exploded in the front lobby of the Labor Party Headquarters. The building had been evacuated by local police, however there were several officers inside of the building when the bomb went off. 7 police officers from Nyman were killed in the blast, and 21 more were injured and are currently receiving care.

A group of three men were taken in to custody by military police, acting under orders of Secretary of External Affairs Kalwejt, shortly after the Labor Part Bombing. Interrogation determined that the men were out to assassinate another Senator - NC Yankee. An officer, speaking anonymously, told The Atlasian Republican that a "hit list" was found on one of the suspects. Included on the list were the bombings of the Department of External Affairs, Attorney General's Office, and the Labor Party Headquarters, as well as the names of Senators Cris, NC Yankee, and former President DemPGH. All three have received increased personal security details.

Speaking at a press conference at the Police Department's headquarters, Chief of Police Kris Carter said "We are now almost certain that all three bombing attacks and the attempt at Senate Speaker Cris' life were perpetrated by the same group. Current signs indicate that the group Reality or Nothing and former Attorney General Al Sibboleth are the leaders and co-ordinators of the attacks, but we do not want to make a firm I.D. until the situation is under control. Our goal at this time is ensuring the safety of Nyman." Former Attorney General Al Sibboleth is currently in South America.
