Using a time machine I get the two best presidents of the late 20th century at their strongest to face each other in 2016 for the White House. Note: same vp picks and it is the younger versions of bush and gore and I've cured reagans Alzheimer's so that issue is gone. Who would win? What is th electoral map and the popular vote? also due to time travel effects no one remembers Iran contra or The sex scandal just to make them stronger.

Looking at it purely in terms of popular vote percentage (i.e. who achieved a higher percentage in each state) gives us this rather odd map:

Reagan/Bush 462 EV
Clinton/Gore 71 EV

Considering popular vote margin (i.e. who won each state by the most) produces this also weird map:

Reagan/Bush 398 EV
Clinton/Gore 135 EV

Probably neither is a very accurate representation of if there ever were a Clinton vs. Reagan election, but it definitely goes to show 1) how much demographics have changed since the 80s and 90s, especially out west and 2) how strong Reagan was in northeastern suburbia as well as out west.

Reagan wins. Republicans would all vote for him, and he's charismatic enough to convince most moderates and even some Democrats to vote for him.

It's a bad explanation, but he is a charismatic man who campaigns very well.

He's like John Kasich+Marco Rubio with the ability to prevent polarization. He expanded Medicaid, he gave amnesty to immigrants.
