Finally this murderer will be dead. He killed so many people and for some reason psychiatrists didn't find that he was mentally ill so that means he completely understood what he was doing. There are so many shootings happening in the US and it seems like people are not going to stop massacring each other. Maybe we should finally ban gun ownership to prevent such incidents from happening in future?

well its hard to know what to do. The first thing is to ban ex-cons from owning guns. But Holmes wasn't an ex-con so its hard to know what could have stopped this from happening.

Please desist with this tedious canard. Every time there's a massacre in the US people attempt to suggest it was ACTUALLY MENTAL HEALTHCARE!!!! that was the problem and not, uh, the obvious.

Come on oakvale.  The government is trying to take our freedom and is intruding into our lives by trying to tell us what kind of high powered semi-automatic rifles we can own.  And, as we know, if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns.  The government can never affect guns by regulating them, simply impossible.

Instead, we need the government to create a universal list of all Americans and their mental health issues, and then implement a system where we monitor all Americans and predict whether they're dangerous.  Easy enough, right?  And, then we use modern psychiatric technology to cure those people before they become dangerous.  Sure, maybe we'd have to involuntarily commit some people if that fails, but it's worth it to protect our freedom and keep the government out of our lives.

Expansion of mental healthcare access is definitely exaggerated in terms of how much it will reduce gun violence, but in this case, Holmes did have a history of mental illness that was left untreated for most of his adult life. He should have had easier access to mental healthcare, but the important variable in preventing the shooting is that he should not have had the ability to purchase a gun based on his mental state.

Finally this murderer will be dead.

Doubtful.  Colorado currently has a moratorium on carrying out the death penalty and a bill to abolish it has managed to pass their House but not their Senate in the recent past. Plus, at present lethal injection is the sole method of execution under Colorado law and I don't see the current problems obtaining the needed drugs to change anytime soon. Plus unless the killer waives appeals, that process will probably take ten years at the minimum.

I bet there are many people who pass all psychological tests as I don't think it's too hard to pretend that you are a sane person (if you are not a total madman). There are many shootings happening everywhere and somehow all those insane people get their guns...

Holmes had a documented history of mental illness. Background checks would've clearly made a difference here.

There's lots of signs and indicators that point to mental instability that your average mentally ill person doesn't know about.
