Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik has announced a referendum on whether the federal Bosnian judicial system and the international community's High Representative can go f... themselves. And despite pressure from Serbia he is not backing down.

"Do you support the anti-constitutional and unauthorized laws imposed by the High Representative of the international community, especially the laws imposed relating to the Court and the Prosecutor's office of Bosnia and Herzegovina?"

I predict a solid No victory. Turnout will be interesting though.

And you base that prejudiced comment on? Also ironic coming from someone who as a S-GR avatar.

Their convoluted, unworkable style of government, no doubt.

Actually surprised this isn't just a full on independence referendum. Dodik has threatened one in the past and there's really nothing to stop him. Putin would back him up for sure.

Bosniak representatives in the Council of Peoples in the Srpska National Assembly are trying to block the referendum using a minority protection clause about it threatening their "vital national interests". It will be up to the Srpska Constitutional Court to decide if the claim is valid.

Bosnia is basically Yugoslavia 2.0 "The mini version", but without the dictator to run the place with an iron fist or the unifying ideology. Add the fact that three ethnicities hate each other even more than during Tito's rule and you can easily how fundamentally artificial and unstable this country is. If it wasn't for the threat of war, it would not have lasted nearly as long.

The Balkans (and especially former Yugoslavia) are firmly in the US sphere of influence. It matters little what Putin might think, but it matters far more what the US and the EU would think, which is why there is no chance of such a referendum in the foreseeable future.

That's a worse question than the Greek one... but not by much.

So, to sum up: a joke referendum with a joke question in a joke autonomous entity within a joke country.

Can't we be more creative... Or should I say Churchillian?...  A farcical referendum with a ridiculous question in a laughable autonomous entity within a parody of a country?
