This weekend, for the first time this cycle, we had two events that drew multiple Democratic presidential candidates.  The first was the Iowa Democratic Party's Hall of Fame Dinner, which drew all five candidates (Webb didn't make it into this picture, but he was there nonetheless):

The next day, O'Malley and Sanders were in Phoenix, appearing at the Netroots Nation forum, where they were both interrupted by protestors:

When Sanders got onstage, a similar fiasco ensued.

I read about the Netroots thing. O'Malley seems to have handled it better than Sanders who just got flustered, but the protestors really went too far. This is why the Black Lives Matter Movement isn't being taken seriously.

At the Iowa dinner, O'Malley and Webb made some veiled knocks against Clinton.  E.g.,

BLM shouted down the 2 candidates most sympathetic to their positions? Brilliant.

Ridiculous. As if this is actually helpful to the movement whatsoever. Sanders and O'Malley, really? What a pair of racists right there. Just totally disruptive.

Agreed. I don't know why he got booed. I don't know why it's apparently verboten to say "all lives matter", actually.

Good. It's about time protesters learn that the Dems are the graveyard of social movements.

White libs like Sanders gotta sit down and listen to the unjust reality facing people of color.

If they were even slightly specific on their plan, or even mentioned Sandra Bland, it would have made an impact. But he won't. Cause like the majority of the Democrats he doesn't have a plan, plain and simple.

Sanders handled it better because he didn't say "all lives matter" which as innocuous as it SHOULD be, is basically like saying "I love cops."

I honestly can't figure out why they would protest Sanders though. He has no links to Baltimore but the fact that they didn't interrupt Hillary heavily suggests they were pro-Hillary plants.

To clarify, I mentioned two separate events in this thread: The Iowa Democratic Party dinner in Iowa and the Netroots Nation forum in Phoenix.  I believe the former was on Friday and the latter was on Saturday.  The "black lives matter" stuff was at the Netroots Nation event, and I don't think Clinton was there.  O'Malley and Sanders went to both of these events, but I think Clinton just went to the Iowa dinner, and there were no hecklers there for any candidates.

They were either morons or Hillary supporters. Does it really matter which?  Hillary didn't speak at the NN, and I suspect no one will ever want to speak there again.

Sanders said this

Just a theory: There's a Malcolm X quote, and I can't seem to find it anywhere or else I'd post it, about why minorities should be most skeptical of left-wing whites. Basically, in summary: "No whites in power care about you. The farther left they are, the bigger liars they are about having your interests at heart."

I don't know if this particular group espouses his ideology, but it would make more sense for such a group to protest a Sanders or an O'Malley in a sort of "They're the same as all the others!" kind of way, than it would for them to protest Hillary or Webb, whom they probably consider to have already shown their true (Goldwater/Dixiecrat) colors.

Sander is probably the worst Democrat (other than neo-Confederate Jim Webb of course) on black issues, but of course his upper class white liberal cultists are outraged whenever anyone dares to suggest that he's not the perfect progressive messiah.

The organizers (and that is being generous) of Netroots should be ashamed of themselves. They shouldnt have allowed these protests to take over the stage like that.  You can see why Team Hillary sent her to Arkansas instead.   I cant imagine a presidential candidate ever going to one of their events again.

That's pretty embarrassing behavior from these protesters.  Both candidates handled themselves about as well as could be expected.

Sanders dares to oppose Lief's candidate, Hillary, wife of the supposed first black President.

Not a peep from Hillary there. And the day before the NN disaster, he said he envisioned an America in which young black men can walk in the streets without fear of being shot. Anyone still going after Sanders on this is stupid, a Hillary hack, or a Republican mole.

Oh no, Sanders is on the right side of these issues. But he's not a leader on them, and neither is anyone else in the field. But he did seem to get a bit flustered which leads me to believe that he doesn't fare so well with hecklers.

Reminds me of Marcus Garvey, who didn't trust the disproportionately Jewish ACLU and other northern liberals who would come to the assistance of African Americans in the South in the early years of the 20th century.  He felt they must have had ulterior motives.  But, Garvey would talk with the KKK, because he felt they were the ones who were in control.

W.E.B. Dubois thought Garvey was a con man and a fraud.  What, exactly, did Garvey ever accomplish?

Garvey was probably an anti-Semite, and probably admired and envied the KKK because they exercised power (a role model for Louis Farakhan, maybe?)

Booker T. Washington was certainly a moderate hero.

Yes, I think (although Sanders handled it like a dweeb) this protest was mainly aimed at O'Malley who is none too popular with Maryland blacks (with good reason!)
