Have we already listed "having your account hacked and private information shared with AAD" as one of the job benefits of moderatorship?

Benconstine understands this and is duly endorsed. Only he has the needed experience.

To be honest, I've always been interested in the behind-the-scenes of a forum, and have wanted to give the whole "mod" thing a try to see what it's like. Not going to campaign my way to it, I figure I'll give this the old Ron Paul "I have no shot but  it I'll do it anyway" run at it.

Same reason for me.

i'd be happy to help out as well. i don't really have any specific qualifications that other people haven't listed (a long and active posting history, a non-american timezone, the ability to be impartial when necessary, ...) but i have no life and therefore plenty of time to devote to moderatorly duties.

of the previous applicants i think crabcake, türkisblau and cathcon are the best choices. preferably crabcake, as the mod team in its current state is significantly to the right of the forum as a whole

Whoever is chosen to be a mod in the future I beg the team to consider people who have at least been around awhile and we have a greater understanding of than thinking "Oh, they're a good poster, why not!" No offense meant to Sawx.

You should just lock the entire 2016 board until the eve of the Iowa caucuses.

I just wanted to say I think Talleyrand and Castro are the best applicants so far, for what it's worth.

Thank you very much Smiley

If it's not me then I think Cathcon or CrabCake would be great (and many other posters as well), but I would like the opportunity to take on the role, and I think I would fit the position well. Some additional info about me: I'm a poly-sci major, I work in the Senate, and I play the ukulele. If my uke doesn't seal the deal, I don't know what will.

indoorsed 👍

Seriously though, I do have experience as a moderator and have been active in running and enforcing rules in other online areas years passed. I've also been active here for nearly a decade and have pretty much kept my nose clean. I think I'm detached enough to remain objective.

Otherwise, Turk and CrabCake are the obvious best choices. Edit: Didn't see Cathcon or morgieb, also should be considered top pick.

I should add that I do work full time and so have to fulfill lots of responsibilities and deal with managing people all day there. That serves to illustrate both that I have a necessary skillset.. but also that I'm not drowning in free time. I'm more than willing to dedicate some free time to this place (I already do) but I might take a little while to take action. So that's a possible negative. Or positive, I guess.

a few good options here (ex. tik, Cathcon),   but like please don't pick anyone who is constantly calling for other posters to be banned,  or is often in the habit of insulting other posters,  since we have enough of those types on the mod team already.   (I could name some people who have posted in this thread that applies to, but I don't really feel like it.)

hello yes I would like to apply for the newly vacant position of moderator

I have eight years of experience moderating a discussion forum dedicated to political cartography. In particular, my past experience includes timeline, forum community, and upcoming presidential elections.

Also, please note that I have a signed recommendation letter from the former moderator who I seek to replace

I think it would be a great show of humility and a step towards healing this community if Leip appointed someone who opposed opebo's banning. The forum was split 50-50 on it, and yet the moderator team apparently supported it unanimously. It's this sort of out-of-step arrogance and unwillingness to engage with the forum community that's caused the moderation staff on here to be such a destructive and negative presence.
