I would like the Prime Minister to serve at the pleasure of the President. Makes it more authentic.

Aye.

We have the structures in place to allow a new, elected parliament to settle the rest of these matters.

I don't know if I'm allowed to speak here, but if I may, I would like to appeal to the the honourable members of this parliament to vote for the motion brough forward by Mr Potus, in order to let all matters that may arise be decided by a parliament legitimised and elected by the people. If you honourable gentlemen truly believe in democracy, and in our democratic nation, not just in name but in spirit, there is no way for you to vote anything else but in favour of this bill.

Thank you, I apologise for the interruption.

Mr. Speaker,

I move to amend by striking Section 1d and by striking the words "two-thirds" in Section 3a. I ask that they are treated as two separate amendments.

I oppose the amendment proposed by Rpryor.

The president is supposed to be the Head of State and although just a figurehead, should command wide support across the Parliament instead of just being the candidate of whichever government is sitting at that time. Having a 2/3 majority requirement to seat the President would force parties across a broad ideological spectrum, and quite possibly from both government and opposition to settle on an acceptable candidate. The negotiations, etc. needed to get to that would be fascinating for the game.

I move to adopt rpryor's first amendment (striking Section 1(d)) by unanimous consent, and second Talleyrand's objection to his amendment to Section 3(a).

I object to the amendment striking the two-thirds requirement, and move to vote on both of rpryor's amendments.

I support a 2/3 majority for electing the president for the reasons stated by Talleyrand.

I object to the amendment striking the two-thirds requirement, and move to vote on both of rpryor's amendments.

Why? 1d is literally a repeat of 1c.
