Horrible quote, because it isn't "necessary" to "maintain the distinction of ranks and the order of society" based on class and wealth.

I don't think there needs to be a distinction of ranks.
And I don't think you need to admire the rich and despite or neglect the poor in order to maintain the order of society. I do agree the latter half though.
