When we've worked out the structures of the game and start preparing for the election I'm thinking we should probably elect a Leader of the Conservative Party who would be our candidate for Prime Minister.

What would you guys think of the pros and cons re: a vote among MPs vs. a vote among the general membership? The main advantage of the former as I see it is in terms of gameplay - it adds an element of unpredictability, like, um, real life - but obviously the latter is probably the better bet for now.

I'd say that if there are more than 2 candidates, the MPs vote to narrow it down to 2. And then the whole membership votes.

As the other parties are doing, I suggest we separate party organisation from the parliamentary leadership - we elect a Leader of the party, who will be our candidate for Prime Minister and the public face of the party, and a Chairman and Deputy Chairman to organise the day-to-day logistics of the party.

Lists would be worked out by submissions and discussion between the Leader, Chairman and Deputy Chairman.

Thoughts?

I think that's the best idea. I don't want to invoke Atlasia too much, but if you look at the most successful members of the Labor Party, they fell into (generally) two camps: those who were best at operating the party machine (e.g., Adam Griffin), and those who were legislative powerhouses (e.g., TNF). Separating those roles makes for a fantastic balance. I wish I'd had someone covering the policy side of things when I was Federalist Chairman, for example, because that was absolutely not my strong point.

I agree. I'd be more than happy to serve as a policy and logistics focused Chairman, for example, and have a leader to take the political lead.

I don't see any other nominations, so unless there's an objection I think we can go ahead and declare the following elected -

Leader of the Conservative Party

Potus, MP

Chair of the Conservative Party

Simfan, MP

Deputy Chair of the Conservative Party

RPryor, MP

I have proposed a bill to dissolve the Provisional Parliament and move to begin elections next Wednesday. The party leadership will begin developing the party list, ranking candidates, and mobilizing our party.

I will open a thread for the general election campaign upon completion of the party list.

Yep, it should be in the Election Coverage thread.
