It's a well known fact that quite a few posters have Asperger's/Autism, but I want to know the exact percentage.

Me:

I've never been officially diagnosed with it, so no.

I do not. I also didn't think anybody seriously used "Aspie."

Being honest here, I was feeling too lazy to type out "Asperger's", which is why I typed out "Aspie" instead. I know it's a very childish and stupid way to refer to the syndrome.

I don't know, and I've actually wanted to know for awhile as someone who's extremely introverted. I know I don't have Autism, but I looked up some of the symptoms of Asperger's, and I definitely fit some of the bills (limited range of interest, communication awkwardness). Though there is also a list of what kids with Asperger's suffer from (ADHD, depression, schizophrenia) and I don't suffer from any of them. So if I do have it, its not very severe.

I wish one of the symptoms of asperger's was an inability to self diagnose asperger's.

No btw

My case exactly as well.  I discuss this in depth on AAD.

Frankly, I have a feeling that half of our self described autistic/aspergers posters are self-diagnosed.

I'm not sure quite how to put this without offending the various Atlas Special Interests, but this is a dumb thread, in my opinion.

Yeah.  If we were to have a thread about it, it shouldn't say "suffer from" (one may suffer from symptoms of the disorder, but the disorder itself merely describes a temperament) and second, only actual diagnoses should count as a "yes."

I agree with Sanchez as well.

Oh God, do I have to go through this again?

I am not self-diagnosed, and I have consulted with several recognized professionals over the past 7 years. In fact, I had barely heard about Asperger's when I got diagnosed.

I doubt you are part of the "half" that people suspect are self diagnosed.

I'm only slightly "off", but grew up before it was mass diagnosed.  I probably could use something for motivation and social situations, but I've gotten along just fine (more or less) up until now and I'm too lazy/anti-social to go to a doc about it.  I've got a nephew that everybody says "is just like you [me] were at that age", but they took him to the doc, got him on.....something, and he's doing much better now.

I voted no.

This exactly.

If I were a betting man, I would wager this is the median position of a poster here.  I am not great socially, but I am polite enough, follow the rules, and do OK.

Surely I'm not alone in thinking, upon seeing the thread title, that this was going to be an either/or question, with the only options in the poll being "Asperger's" and "Austism"?
